On October 30, 2001 Taiwan released
a set of four stamps to commemorated XXXIV Baseball World Cup. To help revive the
sport of baseball in Taiwan, President Chen has specially designated 2001 as Taiwan
Baseball Year. Besides this event Taiwan hold three big international games in 2001. The
games are the 21st Asia Baseball Tournament, the 4th Asia AAA Championship and the 34th
Baseball World Cup. The latter was the first international adult baseball games ever held
in Taiwan, and 16 countries from around the world sentteams. Each of the four stamps
featured a different figure from the baseball diamond, including a pitcher, a batter, a
catcher and a sliding base runner.
