Outlook
Blessed with the best talent in the conference, ex-head coach Bob Toledo could only manage one double digit win season during his tenure. Enter into the mix, new head man Karl Dorrell. The fact that the former Bruin gridiron standout was hired surprised many in Westwood, as rumors flew that UWs Rick Neuhiseal had the job wrapped up. At least Dorrell is honest.
Striking Gold
Receiver Craig Bragg is one of the best athletes in the conference and he will line up all over the field, creating mismatches. Flanker Junior Taylor plays in the same mold of Bragg but has the height to go up for jump balls.
Returning fullbacks, Akil Harris and Manny White, average 230 pounds combined with raw speed, throw in 1000 yard tailback Tyler Ebell, enough said.
Dorrell enjoyed a standout career at UCLA and as a young, personable and "hip" coach, will spark the team from the doldrums of Bob Toledo.
The defense is sprinkled with all-league candidates, the Ball brothers, LB Spencer Havner, and CB's Matt Clark and Matt Ware. If only the offense can scrap together 20 points a game.
Sell Those Tickets
After playing Colorado and Oklahoma, the team is thrashed going into conference play.
Gary Beban has to be called from the stands to take a few snaps late in the season.
An erratic kicking game costs the Bruins some close battles.
