HISTORY
............................................................................................................................................................

To persevere faithfully in our rule of life, we "keep our eyes always on Jesus, who inspires and perfects our faith. For the sake of the joy which lay before Him He endured the Cross, heedless of its shame." (Heb. 12.2) With filial love we look to our beloved Lady who "stood near the Cross" (Jn 19.25), suffering profoundly with her only Son, the Mother of Mercy who bears the suffering of all the world in her pierced Heart. We follow the example of our Father Saint John of God and of all those Saints who found in the Blood of Christ the strength and light for their heroic service to Christ suffering in His afflicted members.

VISION
MISSION
................................................................................................................................................

Mindful of the thought of Pope Pius XI I that some souls are to be reached only through the corporal works of Mercy, we consecrate ourselves to the poor and sick personally: silent missionaries in the public hospitals and other institutions of assistance. Through the foundation and maintenance of hospices for the mentally ill, for the aged, for the incurable, and the home-less, we assist in a corporate manner. The spirit of Saint John of God embraces also the care of orphans and needy youth in orphanages (foster homes), and 'Oratories' (social centers); the assistance of prostitutes and girls in moral danger; and the care of prisoners and their families.

Charitable Institutions

............................................................................................................................................................

Saint John of God was neither a priest nor a Religious. He and his Companions were consecrated laymen totally dedicated to the service of Christ Crucified, who suffers again in His afflicted members.

Our Association sees its origin and its inspiration in that first lay-community of Saint John of God in Granada (1537). The spiritual sons (Brothers of Mercy) and daughters (Daughters of Mercy) of Saint John of God continue today his Apostolate of Mercy in their respective Priory-Hospices in the spirit of Poverty, Chastity, Obedience and Hospitality to the poor-sick, in Silence and in Adoration. Others (Companions of St. John of God) dedicate themselves to the apostolate of Mercy according to their state in life: students, workers, married people. Thus, the Association of St. John of God is really a threefold family of Mercy.
