North Stradbroke Island, or Straddie is the
ultimate land based whale watching site for residents of Brisbane, Queensland.
Easily accessible by fast water taxi's from the Cleveland jetty, Straddie
is the ideal getaway spot for city slickers wishing to get away from the
hustle and bustle of city life. It also happens to be an ideal vantage
point from which to view the migrating humpbacks. The prime whale watching
spot on Straddie must undoubtedly be Point Lookout's North Gorge and Whale
Rock. When in season (late June to early November) you are almost guaranteed
to see whales. Some of the other frequently spotted marine life include
inshore bottlenose dolphins (year round), huge schools of manta rays, turtles,
jellyfish. Other occasionally spotted marine inhabitants include the fearsome
orca's, pilot whales, bryde's and minke's.. Please note that if you feel
