North Stradbroke Island..a tribute to a magical place

North Stradbroke Island, or Straddie is the ultimate land based whale watching site for residents of Brisbane, Queensland. Easily accessible by fast water taxi's from the Cleveland jetty, Straddie is the ideal getaway spot for city slickers wishing to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. It also happens to be an ideal vantage point from which to view the migrating humpbacks. The prime whale watching spot on Straddie must undoubtedly be Point Lookout's North Gorge and Whale Rock. When in season (late June to early November) you are almost guaranteed to see whales. Some of the other frequently spotted marine life include inshore bottlenose dolphins (year round), huge schools of manta rays, turtles, jellyfish. Other occasionally spotted marine inhabitants include the fearsome orca's, pilot whales, bryde's and minke's.. Please note that if you feel the need to use some of the images below, just tell me about it first!
