Cyrano

I adopted Cyrano on the 8th of August 2000. Cyrano is a young southern right whale who spends time at the Auckland Islands south of New Zealand. He is not shy about approaching research boats and puts on quite a display to onlookers by breaching and slapping the water with his pectoral fins. Cyrano is thought to be less than ten years old and has a very distinctive nose that makes him easy to identify. Southern right whales are distinct from humpback's in that they are recognized by the patterns of rough skin on their noses called callosities rather then for the patterns on the underside of their flukes. Southern rights are also well know for their playful antics much like the humpback's. Some of their more colorful performances include the breach, spy hop, tail slap, pec slaps and  (unique to this species!) tail sailing. For more about Cyrano, or if you wish to adopt dolphins or whales, check out the "Whale and Dolphin Adoption Project" based in New Zealand. This project is unique in that it has a wide range of ceteceans to adopt, from dolphins to whales of different species.
