This morning Meredith went on her second swim at the YWCA with her parents.  She had a blast and stayed in the water for nearly 30 minutes.  She enjoyed splashing and trying to grab bubbles, but most of all, she loved watching the other young kids around her.

Another first food day for Meredith.  She was given some yogurt.  Meredith has not been a very fussy eater, but she certainly gave the yogurt a negative review.  She would thoughtfully taste the food, and then after about five seconds, make a grimace her parents never knew she was capable of.  It was the look that said, "This is the most foul tasting slime I've ever been subjected to.  Who in their right mind would consider this edible?"

In the afternoon, Meredith played host to Marion (less than two weeks her junior) and Cate (two weeks her senior).  The three babies had a fun time taking toys from each other, grabbing each other and rolling/lunging/crawling/falling on top of each other.  After such a big day, Meredith was exhausted.

After a week of good health following a cold, Meredith caught another cold.  She's sneezing and coughing, and generally unhappy, but she still tries not to let it get in the way of exploring and having fun.  Today Meredith is feeling noticibly better than the two previous days.  Meredith is making more consonant sounds.  She likes to say something like "de-y-de-y-de-y-de-y."  Meredith is also starting to chew on her pacificier.  She smacks it like it was gum.

In the last couple of days, Meredith has begun to make consonant sounds.  Babies usually start with vowels, as well as a variety of uncategorizable sounds.  Consonants are the next step.  Meredith says something like "dwoa," or is it "lrwou?"  Her parents are not real sure, but they are definitely consonants.  Even so, Meredith usually still favors her old-time sounds, one that her parents liken to a pterodactyl and another being the "raspberry" sound.

After passing her cold to her mom last weekend, this morning Meredith's dad discovered that he is the next link in this virus' genealogy.  So, sans papa, Meredith and her mom checked out a potential daycare for her next fall.  Meredith had a blast meeting and watching all the new and different people, adults and babies.  Sometimes her dad wonders how Meredith became such an extravert.  She simply loves people!

The Ides of March was full of activity for Meredith.  In the morning, she went to the doctor for her 6 month check-up.  Meredith is leveling off weight and growth-wise.  She is now closer to the 50 percentile line than the 95 percentile, which she was above the last visit.  Meredith received two vaccinations.  She made a mini-protest, but calmed down quickly.  Later in the day, Meredith and her mom visited their neighbors, Ellen and her daughter Cate.  Cate is a couple weeks older than Meredith and the two of them had lots of fun together.  They spent much of their time trying to grab each others' ears and grabbing their favorite toys, which at any given point were whatever the other one was playing with!

Meredith is getting over a cold this weekend.  She's been coughing and sneezing and a little cranky, but she's getting better.  She doesn't let the sniffles get in the way of her fun for the most part.

Bedtime for Meredith is also going much more smoothly.  She falls asleep within minutes of being put to bed.  She still wakes up several times a night, but she's actually getting herself back to sleep some of these times.

Today she experienced yet another first time experience.  Meredith got a haircut.  Her bangs have been steadily advancing past her eyes and her parents finally acted.  It was a squirmy little exercise for all involved, but it didn't take too long to snip away those bangs.

Today marks the six month mark since Meredith's birth!  She is certainly growing up to be a mature and able young lady, if her parents dare say.  It is amazing to see how far she has come since her birth and first days.

Meredith is getting bigger and bigger.  Not quite six-months old and she is eating solid food two or three times a day.  Her latest new food was pears--which she really enjoyed.  Meredith will have to change into the bigger car seat one of these days.  Right now her feet dangle over the edge, but she's still not quite big enough for the next size.

She is still stubborn about her bed time, but she is getting to sleep slightly more quickly each day.  Now, if Meredith just didn't wake up 4 or 5 times a night, her parents would be all set!  Meredith always makes up for a tough night though by waking up in a super good mood, ready to face the day.  Her smiles and excitement to see her parents in the morning are the best natural substitutes for caffeine her parents could get.  Who could resist her charm?

Meredith had her first experience in participatory democracy today.  It was Super Tuesday and Minnesota had its evening precinct caucus.  It will be a while before Meredith is eligible to vote, but her parents figured they should start her early!  She spent most of the time checking out all the people at the caucus and then headed home early with her mom for bedtime.

Just last weekend, Meredith received a special visit from her Grandma and Grandpa Randolph.  It was an action-packed weekend that included
storytelling, concert-going, and her first swim at the Y.
