| August 26, 2004 In just a few short days Meredith has become quite the walker! She now tries to walk wherever she can, and each day she is quicker and more coordinated. She's now mastering turns. Yesterday she walked several steps and turned around 180 degrees up on her feet and walked back. It's very exiting. Today, Meredith's day care took a field trip to the state fair, where they checked out the animals. Apparently Meredith was thrilled to be able to touch a sheep. Several days earlier, Meredith joined her parents by going to the zoo. She was more interested in all the active babies and kids there than the animals. The one exception were the giraffes--which totally fascinated Mer. August 22, 2004 The last week has been one of illness in the Reise household. Only the cat remained healthy this week, and she didn't really pick up the slack. The whole crew (sans cat) were to go to Wisconsin this weekend for a wedding and to visit relatives, but were forced to cancel because of the inconvenient shared disease. At least now Meredith is beginning to feel better--indicated in part by her greater mobility. On Friday, Meredith ventured into the realm of walking. She took 15 unaided steps (about 3 feet)! Several times since then, she has done 5 or 6 steps by herself. Her parents are so proud and continue to encourage her to do more, but eventually Meredith gets bored with that and either crawls to where she wants or requests to be picked up. August 15, 2004 Each month seems to bring something new to Meredith and August is no different. This month her mom started law school and Meredith's daytime routine underwent some adjustment. Now she spends three days in daycare and two weekdays with her Grandma and Grandpa Burrows, who come all the way from Wisconsin to be with her. Meredith missed her first scheduled days of daycare because she woke up with a fever of 102.7 F the morning of her first day. After her grateful parents were able to get some friends to babysit Meredith for a couple days, she eventually got better and went to the daycare. She loves being at the daycare. There are other babies (although she is the most senor baby in the room) and plenty of fun toys and games. One of the caretakers remarked that Meredith is one of the most persistent babies she's seen. (Apparently, Meredith spent a large portion of her day trying to figure out how to fit some shapes into some holes.) Meredith is also doing well with her grandparents. Unfortunately it has been too cold for swimming, but the grandparents look forward to taking Meredith to the park wading pool while there is some summer left. Meredith had so much fun with her grandparents that she watched outside for a long time after they left. She also was thrilled to pieces to hear her grandma on the phone this morning. The last big news is that Meredith is getting more confident on her feet. She can stand unaided for up to 30 seconds at a time and she is now able to take a couple unassisted steps if she is so motivated. |
