| February 17, 2004 Meredith had been busy this month. She continues to role over on an occassion, but she hasn't exactly made a hobby out of it yet. Meredith does prefer to sit up much of the time however--she gets a better view around her. Her new "lookout" position also allows her to keep an eye on the cat when possible. Meredith eats solid food twice a day. So far she has tried rice cereal, oat cereal, banana mush, avocado mush, and sweet potato mush. She really liked the sweet potato. Whenever Meredith is sat down to eat, she gets really excited--almost to the point her parents think she is going to hyperventilate. If it weren't for the fact that she eats seemingly constantly, her parents would worry that she's not getting enough to eat from her reaction. But Meredith is health and continues to grow out of her clothes at a fast rate. February 15, 2004 Meredith entertained some visitors this weekend. Her Grandma and Grandpa Burrows, Uncle Jesse, Aunt Sonja, and cousin, Kayla, all drove from Wisconsin to see her. Everyone had a great time playing with Meredith. Everyone went to see an Imax movie about Louis and Clark, but Meredith slept through most of it, even the loud and scary part with an angry grizzly bear on the attack. February 6, 2004 News Flash: Meredith rolled over for the first time today! She and wonderful nanny Julie were playing and she reportedly flipped over from her stomach to her back. Julie says that both she and Meredith were very surprised! Mer has not repeated her performance, even though her parents have been putting her on her stomach a lot (and watching her like a hawk to get in on the fun this time!) February 5, 2004 Another first today! At the Early Childhood Development Education class, Meredith stayed sitting up for 20 minutes without help. She was sitting with her mom and leaning forward to play with some balls in a bucket. She was so engrossed in it she kept her balance for ten times longer than she ever had before. It seems like every other day she has a new surprise for her parents. Meredith has also started eating some oatmeal cereal during the day, in addition to her regular rice cereal. She likes it a lot. Her mom thinks she will get to try some mushed-up bananas next week--another brand new experience for Meredith! February 2, 2004 Today Meredith and her parents flew back to the frozen north. This flight was a little tougher on Meredith (she was tired and crabby and her ears hurt--a bad combination), but the other passengers were tolerant. The 12-inch snowstorm in Minneapolis had just ended when they landed, leading Meredith's parents to conclude they had perfect timing. (Although, even better timing would have waited until the snow melted so her dad didn't have to do all that shoveling!) Before leaving New Orleans, Meredith (and her mom) rode on their first street car. They all toured an old above-ground cemetery. Just as they arrived at the airport, the cloudy, 60-degree weather warmed up more and became a beautiful sunny day. Meredith's parents still would take the 60-degrees when being confronted with the alternative of below zero. February 1, 2004 Meredith took her first plane ride this weekend! Her parents, wanting to escape the double-digit below zero temps in Minnesota, found a good deal online and the three of theme took an extended weekend vacation to New Orleans. Meredith behaved quite well in the two-hour flight. In New Orleans, the weather was much warmer (though the locals didn't think 60 degrees was warm). The first day it was raining, so her parents took Meredith to the New Orleans Aquarium. Meredith slept for much of the time, but she did enjoy watching the fish, and sharks and sea otters. With Meredith, her parents found themselves retiring a bit earlier than much of the other people in this party town. Her dad felt sorry for the people in the next room when Meredith awoke with loud, prolonged cries at 6:00 a.m., even though the people in the next room over made quite a ruckus themselves when they got back at about 4:00 a.m. Today Meredith got to experience better weather and much of the historic sites of the French Quarter in New Orleans. Like her parents, she didn't take much interest in the Super Bowl, and actually turned in for the day before the game was even half-way over. |
