|
1 ¶And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2 Make thee two trumpets
of silver; of a whole piece shalt thou make them: that thou mayest
use them for the calling of the assembly, and for the journeying
of the camps. 3 And when they shall blow with them, all the assembly
shall assemble themselves to thee at the door of the tabernacle
of the congregation. 4 And if they blow but with one trumpet, then
the princes, which are heads of the thousands of Israel, shall gather
themselves unto thee. 5 When ye blow an alarm, then the camps that
lie on the east parts shall go forward. 6 When ye blow an alarm
the second time, then the camps that lie on the south side shall
take their journey: they shall blow an alarm for their journeys.
7 But when the congregation is to be gathered together, ye shall
blow, but ye shall not sound an alarm. 8 And the sons of Aaron,
the priests, shall blow with the trumpets; and they shall be to
you for an ordinance for ever throughout your generations. 9 And
if ye go to war in your land against the enemy that oppresseth you,
then ye shall blow an alarm with the trumpets; and ye shall be remembered
before the LORD your God, and ye shall be saved from your enemies.
10 Also in the day of your gladness, and in your solemn days, and
in the beginnings of your months, ye shall blow with the trumpets
over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace
offerings; that they may be to you for a memorial before your God:
I am the LORD your God.
11 ¶And it came to pass on the twentieth day of the second month,
in the second year, that the cloud was taken up from off the tabernacle
of the testimony. 12 And the children of Israel took their journeys
out of the wilderness of Sinai; and the cloud rested in the wilderness
of Paran. 13 And they first took their journey according to the
commandment of the LORD by the hand of Moses. 14 In the first place
went the standard of the camp of the children of Judah according
to their armies: and over his host was Nahshon the son of Amminadab.
15 And over the host of the tribe of the children of Issachar was
Nethaneel the son of Zuar. 16 And over the host of the tribe of
the children of Zebulun was Eliab the son of Helon. 17 And the tabernacle
was taken down; and the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari set
forward, bearing the tabernacle. 18 And the standard of the camp
of Reuben set forward according to their armies: and over his host
was Elizur the son of Shedeur. 19 And over the host of the tribe
of the children of Simeon was Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai.
20 And over the host of the tribe of the children of Gad was Eliasaph
the son of Deuel. 21 And the Kohathites set forward, bearing the
sanctuary: and the other did set up the tabernacle against they
came. 22 And the standard of the camp of the children of Ephraim
set forward according to their armies: and over his host was Elishama
the son of Ammihud. 23 And over the host of the tribe of the children
of Manasseh was Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur. 24 And over the host
of the tribe of the children of Benjamin was Abidan the son of Gideoni.
25 And the standard of the camp of the children of Dan set forward,
which was the rereward of all the camps throughout their hosts:
and over his host was Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai. 26 And over
the host of the tribe of the children of Asher was Pagiel the son
of Ocran. 27 And over the host of the tribe of the children of Naphtali
was Ahira the son of Enan. 28 Thus were the journeyings of the children
of Israel according to their armies, when they set forward.
29 ¶And Moses said unto Hobab, the son of Raguel the Midianite,
Moses' father in law, We are journeying unto the place of which
the LORD said, I will give it you: come thou with us, and we will
do thee good: for the LORD hath spoken good concerning Israel. 30
And he said unto him, I will not go; but I will depart to mine own
land, and to my kindred. 31 And he said, Leave us not, I pray thee;
forasmuch as thou knowest how we are to encamp in the wilderness,
and thou mayest be to us instead of eyes. 32 And it shall be, if
thou go with us, yea, it shall be, that what goodness the LORD shall
do unto us, the same will we do unto thee. 33 And they departed
from the mount of the LORD three days' journey: and the ark of the
covenant of the LORD went before them in the three days' journey,
to search out a resting place for them. 34 And the cloud of the
LORD was upon them by day, when they went out of the camp. 35 And
it came to pass, when the ark set forward, that Moses said, Rise
up, LORD, and let thine enemies be scattered; and let them that
hate thee flee before thee. 36 And when it rested, he said, Return,
O LORD, unto the many thousands of Israel.

|
1 ¶My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken
thy hand with a stranger, 2 Thou art snared with the words of thy
mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth. 3 Do this now,
my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of
thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend. 4 Give
not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids. 5 Deliver
thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from
the hand of the fowler.
6 ¶Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, 8 Provideth her meat
in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest. 9 How long
wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the
hands to sleep: 11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth,
and thy want as an armed man.
12 ¶A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.
13 He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth
with his fingers; 14 Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief
continually; he soweth discord. 15 Therefore shall his calamity
come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy. 16 These
six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto
him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent
blood, 18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that
be swift in running to mischief, 19 A false witness that speaketh
lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
20 ¶My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law
of thy mother: 21 Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie
them about thy neck. 22 When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when
thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall
talk with thee. 23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is
light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: 24 To keep
thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange
woman. 25 Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let
her take thee with her eyelids. 26 For by means of a whorish woman
a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt
for the precious life. 27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and
his clothes not be burned? 28 Can one go upon hot coals, and his
feet not be burned? 29 So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife;
whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent. 30 Men do not despise
a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry; 31 But
if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the
substance of his house. 32 But whoso committeth adultery with a
woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own
soul. 33 A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall
not be wiped away. 34 For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore
he will not spare in the day of vengeance. 35 He will not regard
any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many
gifts.

|
1 ¶And it came to pass, that on one of those days, as he taught
the people in the temple, and preached the gospel, the chief priests
and the scribes came upon him with the elders, 2 And spake unto
him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things?
or who is he that gave thee this authority? 3 And he answered and
said unto them, I will also ask you one thing; and answer me: 4
The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? 5 And they reasoned
with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say,
Why then believed ye him not? 6 But and if we say, Of men; all the
people will stone us: for they be persuaded that John was a prophet.
7 And they answered, that they could not tell whence it was. 8 And
Jesus said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do
these things.
9 ¶Then began he to speak to the people this parable; A certain
man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen, and went
into a far country for a long time. 10 And at the season he sent
a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit
of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away
empty. 11 And again he sent another servant: and they beat him also,
and entreated him shamefully, and sent him away empty. 12 And again
he sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out. 13
Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send
my beloved son: it may be they will reverence him when they see
him. 14 But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves,
saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance
may be ours. 15 So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed
him. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them?
16 He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the
vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.
17 And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written,
The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head
of the corner? 18 Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be
broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
19 And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to
lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived
that he had spoken this parable against them.
20 ¶And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should feign
themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that
so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor.
21 And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest
and teachest rightly, neither acceptest thou the person of any,
but teachest the way of God truly: 22 Is it lawful for us to give
tribute unto Caesar, or no? 23 But he perceived their craftiness,
and said unto them, Why tempt ye me? 24 Shew me a penny. Whose image
and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Caesar's. 25
And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which
be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God's. 26 And they
could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marvelled
at his answer, and held their peace.
27 ¶Then came to him certain of the Sadducees, which deny that there
is any resurrection; and they asked him, 28 Saying, Master, Moses
wrote unto us, If any man's brother die, having a wife, and he die
without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise
up seed unto his brother. 29 There were therefore seven brethren:
and the first took a wife, and died without children. 30 And the
second took her to wife, and he died childless. 31 And the third
took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children,
and died. 32 Last of all the woman died also. 33 Therefore in the
resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife.
34 And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world
marry, and are given in marriage: 35 But they which shall be accounted
worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead,
neither marry, nor are given in marriage: 36 Neither can they die
any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children
of God, being the children of the resurrection. 37 Now that the
dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth
the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of
Jacob. 38 For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for
all live unto him.
39 ¶Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, thou hast
well said. 40 And after that they durst not ask him any question
at all. 41 And he said unto them, How say they that Christ is David's
son? 42 And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The LORD
said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, 43 Till I make thine
enemies thy footstool. 44 David therefore calleth him Lord, how
is he then his son? 45 Then in the audience of all the people he
said unto his disciples, 46 Beware of the scribes, which desire
to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the
highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;
47 Which devour widows' houses, and for a shew make long prayers:
the same shall receive greater damnation.
