Deuteronomy

1 ¶All the commandments which I command thee this day shall ye observe
to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the
land which the LORD sware unto your fathers. 2 And thou shalt remember
all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in
the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what
was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments,
or no. 3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed
thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers
know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread
only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the
LORD doth man live. 4 Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither
did thy foot swell, these forty years. 5 Thou shalt also consider
in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the LORD thy
God chasteneth thee. 6 Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments
of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him. 7 For
the LORD thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks
of water, of fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and
hills; 8 A land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees,
and pomegranates; a land of oil olive, and honey; 9 A land wherein
thou shalt eat bread without scarceness, thou shalt not lack any
thing in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills
thou mayest dig brass.
10 ¶When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless the
LORD thy God for the good land which he hath given thee. 11 Beware
that thou forget not the LORD thy God, in not keeping his commandments,
and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day:
12 Lest when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly
houses, and dwelt therein; 13 And when thy herds and thy flocks
multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that
thou hast is multiplied; 14 Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou
forget the LORD thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land
of Egypt, from the house of bondage; 15 Who led thee through that
great and terrible wilderness, wherein were fiery serpents, and
scorpions, and drought, where there was no water; who brought thee
forth water out of the rock of flint; 16 Who fed thee in the wilderness
with manna, which thy fathers knew not, that he might humble thee,
and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end;
17 And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand
hath gotten me this wealth. 18 But thou shalt remember the LORD
thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that
he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as
it is this day. 19 And it shall be, if thou do at all forget the
LORD thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship
them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish.
20 As the nations which the LORD destroyeth before your face, so
shall ye perish; because ye would not be obedient unto the voice
of the LORD your God.

1 ¶Hear, O Israel: Thou art to pass over Jordan this day, to go
in to possess nations greater and mightier than thyself, cities
great and fenced up to heaven, 2 A people great and tall, the children
of the Anakims, whom thou knowest, and of whom thou hast heard say,
Who can stand before the children of Anak! 3 Understand therefore
this day, that the LORD thy God is he which goeth over before thee;
as a consuming fire he shall destroy them, and he shall bring them
down before thy face: so shalt thou drive them out, and destroy
them quickly, as the LORD hath said unto thee. 4 Speak not thou
in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast them out from
before thee, saying, For my righteousness the LORD hath brought
me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations
the LORD doth drive them out from before thee. 5 Not for thy righteousness,
or for the uprightness of thine heart, dost thou go to possess their
land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD thy God doth
drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word
which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
6 Understand therefore, that the LORD thy God giveth thee not this
good land to possess it for thy righteousness; for thou art a stiffnecked
people.
7 ¶Remember, and forget not, how thou provokedst the LORD thy God
to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that thou didst depart
out of the land of Egypt, until ye came unto this place, ye have
been rebellious against the LORD. 8 Also in Horeb ye provoked the
LORD to wrath, so that the LORD was angry with you to have destroyed
you. 9 When I was gone up into the mount to receive the tables of
stone, even the tables of the covenant which the LORD made with
you, then I abode in the mount forty days and forty nights, I neither
did eat bread nor drink water: 10 And the LORD delivered unto me
two tables of stone written with the finger of God; and on them
was written according to all the words, which the LORD spake with
you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the
assembly. 11 And it came to pass at the end of forty days and forty
nights, that the LORD gave me the two tables of stone, even the
tables of the covenant. 12 And the LORD said unto me, Arise, get
thee down quickly from hence; for thy people which thou hast brought
forth out of Egypt have corrupted themselves; they are quickly turned
aside out of the way which I commanded them; they have made them
a molten image. 13 Furthermore the LORD spake unto me, saying, I
have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people:
14 Let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name
from under heaven: and I will make of thee a nation mightier and
greater than they. 15 So I turned and came down from the mount,
and the mount burned with fire: and the two tables of the covenant
were in my two hands. 16 And I looked, and, behold, ye had sinned
against the LORD your God, and had made you a molten calf: ye had
turned aside quickly out of the way which the LORD had commanded
you. 17 And I took the two tables, and cast them out of my two hands,
and brake them before your eyes. 18 And I fell down before the LORD,
as at the first, forty days and forty nights: I did neither eat
bread, nor drink water, because of all your sins which ye sinned,
in doing wickedly in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.
19 For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure, wherewith
the LORD was wroth against you to destroy you. But the LORD hearkened
unto me at that time also. 20 And the LORD was very angry with Aaron
to have destroyed him: and I prayed for Aaron also the same time.
21 And I took your sin, the calf which ye had made, and burnt it
with fire, and stamped it, and ground it very small, even until
it was as small as dust: and I cast the dust thereof into the brook
that descended out of the mount. 22 And at Taberah, and at Massah,
and at Kibrothhattaavah, ye provoked the LORD to wrath. 23 Likewise
when the LORD sent you from Kadeshbarnea, saying, Go up and possess
the land which I have given you; then ye rebelled against the commandment
of the LORD your God, and ye believed him not, nor hearkened to
his voice. 24 Ye have been rebellious against the LORD from the
day that I knew you. 25 Thus I fell down before the LORD forty days
and forty nights, as I fell down at the first; because the LORD
had said he would destroy you. 26 I prayed therefore unto the LORD,
and said, O Lord GOD, destroy not thy people and thine inheritance,
which thou hast redeemed through thy greatness, which thou hast
brought forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand. 27 Remember thy servants,
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; look not unto the stubbornness of this
people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sin: 28 Lest the land
whence thou broughtest us out say, Because the LORD was not able
to bring them into the land which he promised them, and because
he hated them, he hath brought them out to slay them in the wilderness.
29 Yet they are thy people and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest
out by thy mighty power and by thy stretched out arm.

Ecclesiastes
3
|
|
1 ¶To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose
under the heaven: 2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time
to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; 3 A time
to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to
build up; 4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn,
and a time to dance; 5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to
gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain
from embracing; 6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep,
and a time to cast away; 7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a
time to keep silence, and a time to speak; 8 A time to love, and
a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace. 9 What profit
hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth? 10 I have seen
the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised
in it.
11 ¶He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath
set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work
that God maketh from the beginning to the end. 12 I know that there
is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in
his life. 13 And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy
the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God. 14 I know that,
whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to
it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should
fear before him. 15 That which hath been is now; and that which
is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.
16 ¶And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that
wickedness was there; and the place of righteousness, that iniquity
was there. 17 I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous
and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and
for every work. 18 I said in mine heart concerning the estate of
the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might
see that they themselves are beasts. 19 For that which befalleth
the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them:
as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath;
so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.
20 All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust
again. 21 Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the
spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth? 22 Wherefore
I perceive that there is nothing better, than that a man should
rejoice in his own works; for that is his portion: for who shall
bring him to see what shall be after him?

1 ¶The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it
was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away
from the sepulchre. 2 Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter,
and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them,
They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know
not where they have laid him. 3 Peter therefore went forth, and
that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre. 4 So they ran both
together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first
to the sepulchre. 5 And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the
linen clothes lying; yet went he not in. 6 Then cometh Simon Peter
following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen
clothes lie, 7 And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying
with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.
8 Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the
sepulchre, and he saw, and believed. 9 For as yet they knew not
the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead. 10 Then the
disciples went away again unto their own home.
11 ¶But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she
wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre, 12 And seeth
two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other
at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. 13 And they say unto
her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they
have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.
14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw
Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus saith unto
her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing
him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne
him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him
away. 16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith
unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master. 17 Jesus saith unto
her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go
to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and
your Father; and to my God, and your God. 18 Mary Magdalene came
and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had
spoken these things unto her.
19 ¶Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week,
when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for
fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto
them, Peace be unto you. 20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto
them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when
they saw the Lord. 21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto
you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. 22 And when
he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive
ye the Holy Ghost: 23 Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted
unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained. 24
But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them
when Jesus came. 25 The other disciples therefore said unto him,
We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see
in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the
print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not
believe.
26 ¶And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas
with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the
midst, and said, Peace be unto you. 27 Then saith he to Thomas,
Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy
hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. 29
Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast
believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples,
which are not written in this book: 31 But these are written, that
ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that
believing ye might have life through his name.

1 ¶After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples
at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he himself. 2 There
were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael
of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his
disciples. 3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say
unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into
a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing. 4 But when
the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples
knew not that it was Jesus. 5 Then Jesus saith unto them, Children,
have ye any meat? They answered him, No. 6 And he said unto them,
Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They
cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude
of fishes. 7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto
Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the
Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and
did cast himself into the sea. 8 And the other disciples came in
a little ship; (for they were not far from land, but as it were
two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes. 9 As soon then
as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish
laid thereon, and bread. 10 Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the
fish which ye have now caught. 11 Simon Peter went up, and drew
the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three:
and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken. 12 Jesus
saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst
ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord. 13 Jesus then
cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise. 14
This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples,
after that he was risen from the dead.
15 ¶So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son
of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea,
Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my
lambs. 16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas,
lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that
I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. 17 He saith unto
him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was
grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me?
And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest
that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep. 18 Verily,
verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself,
and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old,
thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee,
and carry thee whither thou wouldest not. 19 This spake he, signifying
by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this,
he saith unto him, Follow me.
20 ¶Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved
following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said,
Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee? 21 Peter seeing him saith
to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do? 22 Jesus saith unto
him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?
follow thou me. 23 Then went this saying abroad among the brethren,
that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him,
He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what
is that to thee? 24 This is the disciple which testifieth of these
things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is
true. 25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the
which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even
the world itself could not contain the books that should be written.
Amen.
