David's AIDSRide Journal
Washington DC AIDSRide 6   June 20-24, 2001
Polaroid set up a tent on Day Four and took pictures of riders as we biked into the holding/ lunch area at the Washington Monument.  Our last stop before riding onto the Mall!  At center, this is Jeff, Jared, Joan, and me.

My AIDSRide Experience AIDSRide Beneficiaries
I thought past AIDSRiders exaggerated the impact of the ride on their lives.  After New Year's I put aside my Gen X cynicism and registered.  I finished the Washington DC AIDSRide this June.  And yes, it is life changing!
After the ride, after months of mental and physical preparation, I can look back and say, That wasn't so bad.  In fact, it was pretty damn awesome.  People leave the AIDSRide and make changes in their lives.  Achieving what seems like an impossible goal alters your perspective.
People find the courage to leave jobs they aren't satisfied with.  They shed relationships that just don't work anymore.  They aren't afraid of risk and they find new challenges personally and professionally.  And some, called ReCyclers, sign up for another AIDSRide!
I'm tired.  I'm sore.  And I still feel grungy.  The words and pictures on this website don't begin to describe my AIDSRide experience.  I'm proud of this accomplishment and I'm sad that it's over.  But in a way, it's not over.  I now have the inspiration to write that novel that's been bouncing around my head since I was 19.
I now know that I can do better at work, keep in touch with friends better, and be a kinder human being.  More patient, more encouraging, more purposeful.  And of course, more giving.  We all must give back to our families, our friends, and our communities.
This event has changed my life.  Here are the journals and pictures that show how and why.
