The Poprad, hanging out at a pit stop. Since it had rained and rained at camp the night before (read the day 3 journal for the full story) we all got a free bike wash. The ground, of course, was still wet.
On the route, we found many "spontaneous" pit stops, set up by people who support the AIDSRide and want to help riders. Two women (and Safeway) set up this pit stop with watermelon--a refreshing break. I took this picture later in the day, after it had rained again during the ride. I wasn't sure if my camera got wet in the camelback; apparently it was ok.
Here we are at Hylton High School ("the Hilton" as we called it), our alternate camp site in Manassas. We weren't sure if the planned campsite was flooded by the rains the night before, but for one night, this would be home. Early-arriving riders camped inside the gymnasium; later-arriving riders camped just about anywhere else.
Riders setting up tents outside. See all the sleeping bags and sheets drying on the chain-link fence?
The tennis courts, used for a tent campsite and also laundry line. Every open space of fence was used to air out sleeping bags, sheets, and clothes still damp from the night before.
Jeff, Jared, and Joan outside, playing gin rummy. Apparently we had finished Pictionary. I don't remember which team won, but we were all very clever with our clues.
