| Buffy vs. Dracula Dracula, Rudolph Martin played Sarah Michelle Gellar's onscreen lover in the daytime soap All My Children. Martin had another crack at Drac when he played Vlad the Impaler in the TV movie Dark Prince: The True Story of Dracula, soon after appearing in Buffy. Music: Vertical Horizon 'Finding Me' and Grieg's Holberg Suite 'Prelude'. Real Me Michelle Trachtenberg previously worked with Sarah Michelle Gellar on the American daytime soap All My Children. She also starred in the children's film Harriet the Spy, written by Buffy writer Doug Petrie. The Replacement Nicholas Brendon's twin brother Kelly goes by the last name Donovan. The actors' real surname is actually Schultz but they both use their middle names as surnames when working. Oops Moment: Spike has a visible tan line on his arms in some shots. Out Of My Mind All the jars behind the counter at the Magic Box contain ingredients named after the cast and crew. Delights such as Boreanaz Beads, Charisma Charms and Tony's Heads can all be found there. Music: Riley plays basketball to the sound of 'Breathe' by Nickelback. It's from their album The State. Family We find out that Tara's surname is McClay. Megan Gray plays Sandy, the vampire that Riley meets in Willy's bar. The character previously appeared in Season Three's Doppelgngland as the girl at the Bronze, killed by Vampire Willow. Oops: If Tara cast a spell to hide only her demonic side, how come nobody could see Spike? A vampire is only part demon, after all. Music: This weeks music is provided by Yo La Tengo 'Tears Are In Your Eyes', My Vitriol 'Cemented Shoes', Motorace 'American Shoes' and Melanie Doane - 'I Can't Take My Eyes Off You'. The first track plays in Willy's place when Riley gets picked up by Sandy. The others feature at Tara's birthday party at the Bronze. Fool For Love Contradicting School Hard, we finally discover who really sired Spike - Drusilla. Joss Whedon had confirmed this for some time but had never stated it onscreen. Spike had originally claimed that Angel had sired him, so Joss invented the theory that 'sired' covers a vampire's entire bloodline. As Dru sired Spike and Angel sired Dru, Angel is effectively Spike's vampire grandpa, but also his sire. Oops Moment When Angel and William bump into each other watch their wigs jump. Music: This week's music playing in the Bronze is 'Balladovie' by The Killingtons. Also featured is Avenue A 'Run Cold', Bach 'Partita No. 3 in E Major', Crushing Velvet ' 'XXX', Virgil 'Heal Yourself' and Mendelssohn's 'Wedding March'. Shadow Kevin Weisman, who play's Glory's minion, Dreg, previously appeared alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar in the 1997 TV movie Beverly Hills Family Robinson. According to the Yellow Pages, the address of the Magic Box is 5124 Maple Court, downtown Sunnydale. Its phone number is 803-555-8966. 555 gets used a lot for fictitious phone numbers in films and TV shows as it's not a real code. Oops Moment: Even though Glory injures Buffy's right arm during the fight at the zoo, the Slayer puts an ice pack on her left shoulder when she gets to the hospital. Music: Thomas Wanker 'Shadow'. Listening To fear Debbie Lee Carrington, who plays one of the Queller Demons, has also played an Emperor Penguin in Batman Returns, and an Ewok in Return of the Jedi. She has a degree in Child Psychology. Oops Moment: Willow refers to the Tunguska meteor explosion in Russia of 1917. It was actually 1908. Into The Woods The end credits state the episode is "In Memory of D.C. Gustavson". DC Gustavson was a close friend of Sarah Michelle Gellar and part of the Buffy crew. He died in November 2000 at age 41 after fighting cancer and AIDS. Oops Moments: How did Buffy know Riley was leaving at midnight - he only told her he was leaving that night. Music: As Buffy and Riley dance in her room, Emiliana Torrini's 'Summerbreeze' plays in the background. It's on the album 'From Love in the Time of Science.' Also featured, Thomas Wanker 'Run'. Triangle Olaf the troll is played by Abraham Benrubi (full name Abraham Rubin Hercules Benrubi), best known as Jerry Markovic in five seasons of medical drama ER. Oops Moment: How come Anya doesn't know if she can drive? In Graduation Day part 2, when trying to persuade Xander to flee Sunnydale, the ex-demon tells him she has a car waiting outside. Presumably she would have been the one driving it? How do the Scoobies know that Riley was headed for the Central American jungle? He didn't tell any of them last week. Music: Dandy Warhols 'Bohemian Like You' and Blur's 'There's No Other Way' plays in the Bronze as Xander and Spike talk. Blood Ties Blood Ties was the first script from newcomer Steven S. DeKnight. He'd only stopped in to the Buffy offices to discuss the Buffy animated series with Joss Whedon, but soon found himself signed up to become a regular staff writer. Oops Moment: When Dawn stares at the swing in the playground, she has a flashback - remembering her and Buffy playing there years before. Surely, even with everyone's warped memories, neither Dawn or Buffy would have been in Sunnydale at that point? Music: 'Holiday' by Star Ghost Dog plays during Buffy's birthday party. Crush Not only does Sunnydale have its own airport and docks, the town now has it's own railway station. It's certainly grown from from the days when Cordelia remarked "We don't have a whole lot of town here." Music: Two tracks by Summercamp: 'Play It By Ear' (from the album Pure Juice) and the unreleased 'Happy'. You can also hear 'Key' by Devices. It's on their 'From If You Forget Me' album. I was Made To Love You Months before the episode aired in America, rumour was rife that Britney Spears was to appear in one or more episodes of season five. Joss Whedon had denied this on more than one occasion. Music: This week,'Kawanga!' by Los Straitjackets, 'Hidee Ho' by Mellonova and 'OK Nightmare' by Caviar. The Body Joss created the Christmas party flashback scene at the episode's start purely as a means of keeping the episode credits away from the main action and therefore not distract viewers from the action during the subsequent 911 sequence. The body is unique for a Buffy episode in that it features no incidental music. This episode features the first full Willow and Tara kiss on camera. Hating shows that make lesbian-related events a gimmick, Joss deliberately incorporated the kiss into this episode, knowing that it wouldn't and shouldn't be the main focus of attention. "It belongs somewhere where you least expect it," he told TV Guide. |
