This is an interesting story. I found an article in the Birds and Bloom magazine about this
lady who paints wildlife on rocks. I thought the whole concept of rock painting was so neat, so I
decided to try it out. I took a pattern from The Decorative Artists' Workbook magazine, and
painted some farm land with sheep and a fence and trees. I gave it to a friend and she loved it.
The next rock I painted was of my family's farmstand. I used some photos as a reference. I gave
that one to my godparents. And that's what kindled my interest with painting on rocks.
I continued to use the decorative painting techniques on rocks until one year when I was given
a rock painting book for Christmas. It was called The Art of Painting Animals on Rock and was written
by Lin Wellford. I found other titles by the same author, and I rented the books at the library. That's
how come I paint flowers and houses on rocks. Wellford has two books about them. :) Plus many more.
Although Lin Wellford's style is beautiful and her instructions are great, I'm trying to develop my own style.
I just need to practice, practice, practice! ;)

Here's some of the work that I've done:

My rock painting sign. I display a mini collection of my rocks inside the Magicland Kids' Craft
Room.

Isn't this so cute? I let my imagination run wild with this one.
I even put some elves or dwarfs (whatever they are!) peeking outside the door. :)
|
Aw! Look at them! Aren't they so cute? Sorry that you can't see
them too well -- I'm not too steady with the camera. :(
|
Here's a side view of the "mushroom house". I wanted to make
some bushes/trees at the side and then I added some birdhouses.

Here's a miniature version of rock house painting.
|
This was my first rock house. Pretty snazzy, if I do say so myself.
I added a lot of detail to this one. From the tassels on the curtains, to the centers of the flowers. I even tried
making the door look like actual wooden planks.

I really like this one. Can you guess what type of flower it is? Okay,
I won't like to strain your brain - it's a primrose. Instead of following the instructions in the Painting Flowers
on Rocks book, I used a single photo from a gardening magazine. :D

|
Another primrose, this time a yellow one. It was my first one and I
followed the instructions from one of Lin Wellford's books.
|
Yay! My first actually-nice-looking rose painting! I painted this one
for my step mom to give to a relative for Christmas. I really like how it turned out.

 Another view of the roses.

Okay, let's play guess who I am. What's the thing on the left of this
photo? I give you three guess. No, it's not a pig. No, it's not a hamster. It's a guinea pig. So, did you guess
right? =) The rock on the left is a mouse, if you couldn't guess already. Aren't they so cute together?
