Crafty Cathy's

Painted Pumpkins

A handmade spiral-bound book is what inspired me to try my hand at painting on a pumpkin. When I was very little, I used to paint on gourds and pumpkins for fun, so it isn't the first time when I laid a brush on a pumpkin. Actually, I didn't start painting faces on pumpkins until 2005. That's because I painted faces on gourds - or whatever they were. You see, I found some white-pumpkin-gourd thingys in our sugar pumpkin field. We thought they were mixed seed. Well, I decided to paint on it. My first attempts were in vain. I just couldn't get the eyes to match. Then I remember that we had this little book that shows you how to paint pumpkins. It was so much easier to learn by looking at other people's work and incorporating your own personal touch instead of trying completely by scratch.

So, there you have it. The story behind Crafty Cathy's Painted Pumpkins. Now you must help me. I'm in need of a better title. Do you think "Painted Pumpkins" have a nice ring to it? It doesn't to me. I need a nice, fun title that will describe what I'm doing [painting pumpkins], but also has some personality. Of course I'll have "Crafty Cathy's" in front of it, as I do with all of my crafts. Please contact me with all of your ideas. I would really appreciate it!

Photos

Here's some of the work that I've done:

Here's a little mischievous boy. With his red hair, naughty eyes, freckles, and whistling mouth, I'd say he's in trouble but acting cute. ;)

My very first time that I tried blending two colors together. Congrat me. The one at the left is suppose to be a clown and the right one is called "Leaf Man." Yes, Leaf Man. Hehe. I called him that because I glued a leaf on the top of his head and painted him kinda woodsy-like. So cute.

Here's my decked-out girls. I like to put flowers and ribbons on their head - just for an added feminine touch. With their blushing cheeks and red-hot lips, I'd say they are ready for a night out. ;) Haha.

There's that mischievous boy again. This time with two girls.

I like to do some pumpkins with a sweet simple design. Raindrop eyes and a dimpled mouth, what a precious sight.

The golfball idea came from a magazine. I think it was Pack-o-Fun. I thought it was a neat idea.

Some of my painted pumpkins lined up on the picnic table.

I decided I wanted to do a little something different than faces. I'm very interested in tree and their unique design, so I painted one. One eventually turned into four. In this photo, you can only see one.
