Running Back – Darrin Nelson – This guy is pretty non-descript. Low on talent but with only one running play so it never really gets to show. Really I don’t think anyone has ever written more then three sentences about Darrin Nelson, so I’ll stop here.

Receiving Corps – Anthony Carter, Leo Lewis, Steve Jordan – This a solid overall group, with Anthony Carter being the standout. He is the game’s best top wide receiver and brings a lot of speed to the unit. Leo Lewis is the bottom wide receiver with the minimum talent. He’s also the guy that feels it’s unnecessary to block anyone on the wide receiver reverse play, thus submarining the franchise. You have to love Leo Lewis. Steve Jordan is one of the best tight ends in Tecmo, and has very good speed for his position. Overall a pretty good group but they really don’t get much of an opportunity to show their skills.

Offensive Line – David Huffman, K. Lowdermilk, Greg Koch, Tim Irwin – While statistically overall the 5th best offensive line in Tecmo Bowl you could make the case Minnesota in fact has the best offensive line because of one player. Tim Irwin. He’s the best offensive linemen in the game and is infamous for his outrageous blocking. Irwin has so much power he instantaneously makes popcorn hen touched by a weak defensive player, and as the theory goes, still has enough power to grab and block another player, often times the unsuspecting human defender looking to rush in to stop a run. The other three guys are all minimum talents, so really Irwin is the whole show here. He is arguably the only offensive linemen in the game who makes a damn bit of difference.

Defense – This is a nice defense that has too much pressure put on it because of the terrible wide receiver reverse. This unit has a lot of skill, and can match-up well with a lot of teams. Doleman at right end provides solid play, and Joey Browner at top safety is only behind Lott, Deuerson, and Dixon in terms of safety talent. Minnesota also has some nice role players at linebacker with Millard and Thomas. Overall this is a good defense, with a really good player (Browner), a good player (Doleman) and a few nice role players to fill things out. Very solid.

Kick Returner – Anthony Carter – The fourth best kick returner in the game, making him pretty good, but Minnesota desperately needs huge returns at all times because of their offense and Carter doesn’t deliver them. It’s not his fault, as a lot of teams could use a returner the caliber of Carter, but Minnesota needs more out of him then he delivers.

Kicker – Chuck Nelson – One of the better kickers in the game Nelson can deliver some long clutch kicks for Minnesota, and boy do they need it. He’s the 3rd best kicker in Tecmo, capable of hitting from the 44-yard line. You can’t ask for much more from your kicker.

Punter – Greg Coleman – He’s an average punter, not really hurting or helping you to any significant degree. Coleman can punt about 65 yards; the Tecmo Bowl average punter is about 65 ½.

Star Player – Joey Browner – Since no one on offense is going to be the star player obviously, that leaves the best player on the defense, Joey Browner. Browner is one of Tecmo’s best safety’s and has strong speed. He’s not the game breaker the other elite safety’s are but he provides solid play and can anchor this defense very well. The right end Doleman has a case, but Browner is Minnesota’s star player.

Overall – One of, if not the worst team in Tecmo Bowl, Minnesota is crippled by their playbook, and their pretty decent personal can’t overcome it. Minnesota really blows, they rely heavily on gaying teams out, which they can do pretty well. So that’s something.
