Running Back – Lorenzo Hampton – When you talk about running backs that suck you talk about Lorenzo Hampton. The slowest, and worst, running back in the league Hampton really slows down what could be a deadly running game. The Miami draw play is one of the more ingeniously designed runs in the game but Hampton has a tough time taking full advantage of it, a real running back would be tearing the league up with big runs, and would have the defense panicking over how to stop the Miami running game. To recap, Lorenzo Hampton sucks.

Receiving Corps – Mark Duper, Mark Clayton, Bruce Hardy – A solid receiving core, although not as talented as you’d expect with the Marks Brothers. Both Duper and Clayton are about the average Tecmo Bowl wide receiver, or just slightly above. Hardy is a standard limited talent tight end, who sees very little ball. Duper and Clayton on the top and bottom take most of Marino’s passes and do a fine job at piling up the YAC. Overall a solid receiving core for a very pass heavy team.

Offensive Line – Roy Foster, Donald Stephenson, Tom Toth, Ronnie Lee – Combined this group is very good, third best in the league, featuring lots of power and above average speed. Stephenson is the star of the group, as he’s the second most talented offensive lineman in the game. He brings tons of power and speed to the group. Foster adds slightly above average power, while Toth and Lee are generic limited talent lineman. Overall a good group thanks to Stephenson.

Defense – In a word: terrible. Basically no hope of stopping anyone, all you can rely on is play picks. They are the second worst defense in the game, in front of only lowly Dallas. Their main player is John Offerdahl at bottom middle linebacker. He is serviceable, but is nothing special at all, can be juked, and is certainly not a beast. The only other option is their right end Bosa who has a respectable 7 sacks but is more of a solid role player then a much needed game-breaker. Expect teams to walk all over you offensively so it is totally up to Marino to keep the game close.

Kick Returner – James Pruitt – While in the basement talent wise, Pruitt seems to do a little better then his no talent counter parts. This could be due to Miami’s strong offensive line. However, Pruitt still sucks and is not a real threat. Getting it out to the 30 is pretty big for him.

Kicker – Fuad Reveiz – Statistically the second worst kicker in the game, Fuad really blows. With a maximum distance of 38 yards it’s a very good thing this is Miami and you can therefore go for the glory of a touchdown, instead of having to rely on pathetic Fuad.

Punter – Reggie Roby – Roby is a powerful punter, who can blast some very deep punts. His stats indicate he’s the third best punter in Tecmo, and that seems about right. Miami’s defense needs all the field position it can get it’s hands so Roby is nice to have, although Miami’s offense is good enough that if there’s one team that could gamble with a no punting strategy it’s Miami.

Star Player – Dan Marino – Miami goes as far as Marino’s arm carries them. With no defense, running back, kicker or kick returner, it’s all on Dan. Without Marino’s cannon arm their playbook would be ineffective and the team would be dead in the water, but Dan makes the offense one of Tecmo best, and makes Miami a dangerous team. With all the pressure of carrying the team Dan usually makes one big mistake a game trying to make something happen. But he’s still Tecmo Bowl’s best quarterback.

Overall – Miami is a one dimensional team, built entirely on its’ potential touchdown scoring offense. The defense is brutal and provides little help to Dan and the boys. Their special teams are below average, with an extremely weak kicker and return man. This is Dan’s show, so you better know how to quarterback if you want to have success with Miami.
