Thchoice
to carry out a project about the use of mobile phones in four European countries:
Finland, Great Britain, Italy and Portugal. This project is part of the wider
SOCRATES PROGRAMME, which was set up by the E.U. in 1995 to promote the
European dimension of education and to encourage life-long education. Among
its objectives there is also the promotion of an active citizenship, of
equal opportunities of the genders with particular attention to special-needs
people.
Finally it is intended as in instrument to fight every form of exclusion, racialism and xenophobia. In September 2001 "THE THIRD GENERATION OF MOBILE PHONES AND THEIR IMPACT IN EUROPE" started. In the first year the project was carried out by TAVISTOCK COLLEGE, U.K. (coordinator), ISTITUTO DON JOAO V, PORTUGAL (partner) and I.T.C. P. CALAMANDREI, ITALY (partner). The following year MALMI BUSINESS COLLEGE, FINLAND, joined in. This project investigates the use of mobiles among teen-agers as a means of communication, amusement, services and so on. However, beyond the contents of the project itself, the real value of this type of Comenius projects rests in the opportunity it provides to open up to new realities and develop adaptation spirit. Teachers and students have the possibility to compare different working strategies and methods and above all to get to know nice people
