CALAMANDREI

L' I.T.C. Calamandrei is a state-owned Business College that provides upper secondary level education. It is situated on the outskirts North of Rome, on a street that run parallel to the ancient Roman Road Via Flaminia. In our school yard there is still an archeological site showing some precious remains.Despite this touch of ancient history, we are closely linked to modernity too!In fact we are very well connected to the city centre thanks to an urban railway line with a stop just opposite the school entrance and in 15 minutes we can reach People's Square (Piazza del Popolo). The 4-storey school building is modern and comfortable with large windows, nice open spaces, a big gym, outdoor sport facilities. The language, chemistry and physics laboratories and the computer rooms are well-equipped and represent a valid learning support. The library provides study facilities and materials for the students and the staff of Calamandrei.IT facilities, including wordprocessors and internet browsers are available for the production of projects and seminar papers. At the ground floor there is a cafeteria that serves cold and warm snacks and drinks.Disabled people can have an easy access.

Since it is the only technical school of this type in the district, our students come from the little towns North of Rome, as well as from the city outskirts and more central areas with a very varied socio-cultural and economic background. We have about 700 students, aged 14-18, 70 teachers and 20 non-teaching staff.Students attend school from Monday to Friday for a total of 34-36.hours. Classes begin at 8.10 and finishat 2.25 p.m. with 2 short breaks. In the first two years students follow a common syllabus which, a part from the subjects taught in all types of upper secondary schools, is mainly focused on law, business management, accounting and foreign languages. At the moment in Italy only the 1st year of upper secondary school is compulsory. At the end of the second year the students can choose between two branches:1) BUSINESS AND ADMINISTRATION, at the end of which they will get a diploma as accountants specialised in company management issues;2) INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY , at the end of which they will become accountants and computer programmers. After the 5 years they attain a technical school leaving certificate and they can either enrol in a University or enter the working world.

Calamandrei offers its students a wide range of afternoon activities to choose from. Most of them are free or extremely cheap. These take place between 2.30 and 5.00 p.m.Among the most popular we can mention: · the theatre group · music courses · photography courses · cineforum · sport activities · school magazine · language courses (French and English)
Our school has a long-established tradition in · environmental projects · international projects (Socrates with France, England, Sweden, Denmark and Portugal) see also http:// www.partbase.eupro.se · students exchanges (with France, Portugal, Finland) · various cross-curricular projects about legal and business issues Particular attention is paid to the students' achievement of their school goals and therefore they are supported through · tutoring and counselling projects (during the 5 years) · health/wellbeing projects · work stages in various companies · career advising projects (during the last year)
