1993: Peraca's Mistake
The start for Cobreloa's sixth time in the Libertadores Cup could not have been worse. Internal conflicts, Marco "the ghost" Figueroa announcing he was leaving, the coach unhappy with the refuerzos and the directors cutting off the budget for the season, announced that it was better not to expect too much.

An it was as expected. Cobreloa tied in the first game with Universidad Catolica in Calama. A 3 - 0 loss against Bolivar in La Paz meant that going to the next round was not going to be easy. Victories over San Jose in both Oruro and Calama gave Cobreloa the pass to the round of 16.

The rival was Cerro Porteno (Paraguay). A tie in Asuncion made everybody believe that the quarter finals were a fact. But in Calama, an unbelievable mistake of Ramon "Peraca" Perez helped the Paraguayans score. Cobreloa attacked as much as it could, but in the desperation, Cerro Porteno scored its second goal and qualified to the next round. It was the second time Cobreloa would lose in Calama for the Libertadores Cup.
