Carlisle Diary by Nick Tennant

2ndSeptember 2000
Rushden & Diamonds made an offer of 75,000 for my club captain Whitehead but I asked for 350,000 and former Exeter keeper Stuart Naylor.

Plymouth 1 v 0 Carlisle (league)
Another game another defeat. I just cant score my strikers are on a massive barren spell. This game sums up my season so far conceding and not scoring. Another bad thing is I had a massive 4 penalties turned down. MOM Whitehead.

5thSeptember
I dont now this good or bad news because Rushden have offered 350,000 and Naylor but with this money I should be able to improve my squad.

Carlisle 3 v 3 Notts Forest (Worthington cup 2nd leg)
Well what can I say losing 2-0 then we equalised through Halliday and Healy then maybe Whiteheads last game he got sent off and a three-match ban. Then Forest looked to put it past us but Hooper scored in the last minute and made the tie 5-3 on aggregate. I am very pleased with this game and a lot of positives came out of it. MOM debutant striker Hoggs from the reserves.

6thSeptember
The local newspaper raised doubts over Stevens claim for 1st team football but I stuck by him and the manager and fans all agree.

9thSeptember
Carlisle 0 v 1 Chesterfield (league)
This was always going to be a tough game and it was. Both teams had chances but yet again the opposition took them and we didnt. It looks like I will be dipping in the market again. MOM Galloway.

12thSeptember
Big news on the transfer front two come in Naylor and Worthington who is a youth midfielder. Whitehead has gone but you can understand why getting 2,000 a week. Coach Gordan Hill has been offered a coaching job at W.B.A if it goes through I will get 65,000 but Naylor is also a coach.

14thSeptember
Scunthorpe 1 v 1 Carlisle (league)
We travel to the north with 5 players out but this gives me the chance to give debuts to a few players Naylor, Allan and Birch. I decided to pack my midfield and not use wingers and it seemed to work we totally outplayed them. Soley opened our account but the next half they got a dubious penalty and Banger slotted it home. MOM Debutant 37 year-old keeper Naylor.

16thSeptember
Carlisle 2 v 1 Torquay (league)
Finally a win but we made it tough going. Early on we went 1-0 down but in the 2nd half the introduction of 17-year-old midfielder Worhington changed the game. Halliday opened the scoring then Healy against his former club put us ahead from a free kick. MOM 17-year-old Allan great performance up front.

This moved us up from last place to 22nd.

18thSeptember
Hill rejects both W.B.A and Crewe and sticks with us as a coach. Lee Hodges at Scunthorpe isnt happy there so I offered 100,000 for the left-winger.

23rdSeptember
Orient 1 v 3 Carlisle
Are next match took us a tough fixture against Orient. With at least 6 players out with injury Worthington took up a place and midfield in a new look 4-1-3-2 formation. Orient opened the scoring but Stevens and both 17 year-olds Allan and Worthington gave us the victory. MOM Healy.

24thSeptember
Millwall and Blackburn offer for highly rated coach Hill.

25thSeptember

Crewe also offer for Hill. The offer for Hodges was rejected so I made a new offer of 130,000.

27thSeptember
Surprise as Stevens gets called in the Malta squad. Youth player Worthington signs pro forms.

29thSeptember
Q.P.R join the race for Hill.

30thSeptember
Ipswich, Barnsley and Wednesday all offer for Hill.

Carlisle 1 v 2 Brighton
A disappointing result against high placed Brighton sees us stay in 22nd. We had a few good points with Worthington with another assist and Stevens grabbing another. MOM Worthington.
