| Keeping Up Morale The latest edition of the game has enhanced the effect of players moral on the day to day decisions you have to make during the course of a game. The state of a player's moral is shown on the right of the players screen and is presented in the form of a verbal description ranging from Very Low to Superb. Somebody with a setting of superb is more likely to perform well than a colleague who has a low moral and is more likely to be thinking of the problem rather than concentrating on the task in hand winning the game. Players become upset for a variety of reasons mostly caused by the Manager! The words Prima Donna's come to mind. Any current problem is usually displayed in the player transfer screen. It may be a relatively simple matter of installing a reserve into the first team squad or actually agreeing to his transfer even if he is your best player. In the latter instance you have to consider the advantages, if any, of keeping a good player and playing him in matches irrespective of his attitude to the game, against increasing the transfer coffers that might enable you to sign a, as yet undiscovered, adequate, or better, replacement. Some clubs who want to sign one of your players deliberately make their interest public in the hopes of unsettling him. When it works it is usually down to the hidden attributes of Loyalty and Ambition. Some players just do not like each other. This is common off the field with anybody but if you have to share your every working moment with somebody you don't like then you are not a happy bunny. Signing somebody as an indispensable member of the team then dumping him in the reserves as soon as he arrives is not conducive to good moral either. Media comments about particular players or the team in general sometimes require a response from you. Make the wrong choice and the majority of your squad could be demanding transfers. Whatever the reason for a player's unhappiness he will not be long in letting you know why he is unhappy. Apart from the aforementioned Transfer Screen you can get messages as news items. The more impatient or volatile player may even go AWOL on you. Remember Van Hooijdonk, Carbone, etc.? Condition A player's condition can be found below Morale on the player's screen. It is a representation of his match fitness expressed as a percentage. Players rated at 100% are obviously match fit and raring to go. There are many factors that effect the condition of a player. The visible attributes of strength and stamina as well as the hidden natural fitness can combine with the level of training set by you to determine condition. Under those circumstances, depending on the severity of the problem, your only recourse might be to transfer the player. Stamina and Strength are important to condition and if they are low then your player may tire quicker then others with better values here. A player's position can also effect his rate of tiring. Some players are more susceptible to injury and apparently light knocks can reduce their condition more than others, and subsequent recovery rate. Again a hidden attribute that is beyond your control. Between matches most players will recover to !00%. Those that don't usually have a fitness problem that is beyond cure apart from the transfer list. |
