New |
An avid sports
fan, I enjoy the thrill of intense competition and action. My
favorite spectator sports include football, basketball, baseball,
and hockey. I also enjoy watching Summer and Winter Olympic sports
such as Track & Field, Swimming & Diving, Gymnastics, and
Figure Skating.

GIANTS FINISH THIRD IN 2005 NL WEST STANDINGS
(behind San Diego and Arizona)
Giants choose not to re-sign JT so he signs with Boston, one of my favorite teams in the AL.
New to the Giants since my last update: Matt Morris, Brad Hennessey, Armando Benitez, Mike Matheny, Moises Alou, Steve Finley, Randy Winn, and Felipe Alou. Barry Bonds returns to lineup along with Jason Schmidt. I can't wait for the 2006 season to begin. When the Giants come to town...Bye, Bye, Baby...GO GIANTS!!
I was never a great big fan of baseball until
1988, right before the the Giants made it to the World Series in 1989. I
had always thought that watching baseball was boring and that I
would have rather liked playing rather than watching. In 1988, I
began watching baseball games because there wasn't anything else to
watch on TV. I also remember watching the 1989 World Series ("Battle
of the Bay") between the Oakland A's and the SF Giants. The new
baseball park is fast becoming the gem of San Francisco and one of
the most beautiful in the country. My favorite players are Barry
Bonds, Robb Nen, and J.T. Snow.
Interesting facts:
-Co-worker at DPSF is friends with Bryan Srabian who works in the Giants Front Office and responsible for the popularity of "Who Let the Dogs Out"
-Attended Giants 2003 Opening Day Game.
-Former intern at Direct Partners babysat for J.T. Snow and Rich Aurilia. She was J.T.'s neighbor in San Mateo.
-My favorite birthday present were Giants tickets from my supervisor and director. Even more funnier, a new supervisor knew I loved the Giants so got me tickets for my birthday the following year but didn't know my old supervisor got me the same present the year before.
-I have a baseball card signed by J.T. Snow.
-The first time I attended a game at PacBell Park was a comp ticket.
-Growing up in Guam, I was more of a Dodger fan.
-Was at LMC eating dinner and waiting for the 3rd Game of the '89 World Series to start when the infamous '89 Loma Prieta Earthquake hit (had a night class).

FRANK THOMAS SIGNS WITH THE A'S
Not a mistake. I grew to like the A's as I
watched Interleague games between them and the Giants. For such a
young team, they have a lot of talent. Last year they chose not to re-sign Mark Mulder and Tim Hundson but kept Barry Zito and Eric Chavez. Unfortunately, my all-time favorite Ben Grieve was traded to
the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
Interesting facts:
-Mark Mulder, Eric Chavez, Mark Ellis, Frank Menechino, and Mike Venafro used lived in Lafayette during the 2002 season.
-Got comp tickets while working at Cohn & Wells and saw Utah Jazz players.

| San Francisco 49ers - NFL |
49ERS FINISH (4-12) IN THE 2005-2006 SEASON
TIED FOR THIRD TO LAST PLACE WITH GB, TEN, OAK, & NYJ.
Since my last update, they've gotten a new coach (Mike Nolan) and got Alex Smith (QB) from Utah as the first pick last year. Some players to watch next season: Brandon Lloyd, Arnaz Battle, Frank Gore.
They won their last game against last place Houston Texas (Reggie Bush Bowl) which I was fortunate to attend...screamed and cheered as hard as I can in the wind, rain, and cold of Monster Park.
I first became a
49er fan at the age of 11 when the 49ers won their first SuperBowl.
Since then, I've been a loyal SF 49er fan. In December 1995, I
watched my first live 49er game at 3Com Park (Candlestick) as the
49ers faced the Bills. Although they're in the midst of re-building I
remain loyal to the 49ers. My favorite players that have worn the
red and gold are Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Merton Hanks, Ronnie Lott,
and Roger Craig.
Interesting facts:
-Cohn & Wells had season tickets so I attended several games at Candlestick/3COM/Monster Park. C&W's luxury box suite was two suites down from the owner's box so I've seen Dwight Clark, Bill Walsh, Eddie DeBartolo, and even Danny Glover.
-First game I attended at Candlestick was in December 1995 against the Buffalo Bills.
-I attended the 1998 NFC Championship Game (49ers vs. Packers) at Candlestick. 49ers lost but I won part of the office pool.

| Los
Angeles Lakers - NBA |
Since my last update, LA Lakers lost to Detroit Pistons in 2004 NBA Championships. Then, they lost Shaq to the Miami Heat. Phil Jackson retired right before the 2004-2005 season but returns for the 2005-2006 season. Miami has now become my favorite NBA team because of Shaq. Plus Pat Riley's back as head coach.
I've also been a
Lakers fan since 1981. I loved the team of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and
Magic Johnson. Even through their bad seasons in the early 90s, I've
remained a loyal Lakers fan. When Magic returned to play with the
Lakers I was sure that the Lakers had a chance to make it to the NBA
championships. With Shaq and Kobe the Lakers will be a force to
reckon with in the NBA for years to come.

| RIT Tigers - College
Hockey |
RIT'S HOCKEY PROGRAM MOVES TO DIV I FROM DIV III (ECAC).
I was fortunate to catch two of their games in February 2005—which they split. Lost to Manhattanville in ECAC West Semifinals.
I was first
introduced to hockey during my second year at RIT. That year, I had
watched 4 RIT hockey games and a Rochester Amerks game. I became
intrigued by the speed and skill it takes to play hockey. The
competition between rival colleges also made the games intense. It
was a greater thrill to watch the Tigers this year because RIT made
it to the NCAA Division III Championship at River Falls, WI.
Although the team lost to Middlebury in the Championship Game, I was
extremely proud that our team had advanced so far. Some key players
of the season included: Chris Maybury, Adam French, Randy Chenowski,
Steve Toll, and Jamie Morris.

| San Jose Sharks - NHL |
NHL 2004-2005 SEASONS SUSPENDED DUE TO THE STRIKE Just when it looked to be a promising season for the Sharks, the players strike causes the season to get cancelled. The Sharks had made it to the playoffs and just barely lost in the Western Conference Finals. Many experts had picked the Sharks to get into the playoffs this year because they had a young, fast team. There were some changes in the rules such (as two-line pass rule, no trapping the puck, no ties--shootouts after the first OT period decides the winner--which were implemented to increase the pace and excitement of the game. So far, it seems to be working.
Started to like NHL hockey after being introduced to the college hockey games. Returning to the Bay Area, it was inevitable for the Sharks to be my favorite team. I liked Owen Nolan, Jeff Friesen, and Arturs Irbe.
