An avid sports
fan, I enjoy the thrill of intense competition and action. My
favorite spectator sports include football, basketball, baseball,
and hockey. I also enjoy watching Summer and Winter Olympic sports
such as Track & Field, Swimming & Diving, Gymnastics, and
Figure Skating.

National League |
2002 NL CHAMPIONS - SF GIANTS
After entering the playoffs as the NL wildcard, win against the Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals. Lost (barely) to the Anaheim Angels in the 7th game of the World Series.
As the 2003 season begins, some old faces are gone...Dusty (Cubs), David Bell (Phillies), Jeff Kent (Astros), Russ Ortiz (Braves), Livan Hernandez (Expos), Kenny Lofton (Pirates). New faces include Felipe Alou (manager), Ray Durham (2nd base), Edgardo Alfonzo (3rd base), Marquis Grissom (centerfield), Jose Cruz Jr. (rightfield), and Damian Moss (pitcher). Fresno minor league pitchers (Joe Nathan, Kurt Ainsworth, Ryan Jensen) return to the bigs. And of course; Barry "Mr. MVP" Bonds, J.T. Snow, Robb Nen, Rich Aurilia, Benito Santiago are back to show that last year wasn't a fluke. When the Giants come to town...Bye, Bye, Baby...GO GIANTS!!
I was never a great big fan of baseball until
1988, right before the the Giants made it to the World Series in 1989. I
had always thought that watching baseball was boring and that I
would have rather liked playing rather than watching. In 1988, I
began watching baseball games because there wasn't anything else to
watch on TV. I also remember watching the 1989 World Series ("Battle
of the Bay") between the Oakland A's and the SF Giants. The new
baseball park is fast becoming the gem of San Francisco and one of
the most beautiful in the country. My favorite players are Barry
Bonds, Robb Nen, and J.T. Snow.
Interesting facts:
-Co-worker at DPSF is friends with Bryan Srabian who works in the Giants Front Office and responsible for the popularity of "Who Let the Dogs Out"
-Attended Giants 2003 Opening Day Game.
-Former intern at Direct Partners babysat for J.T. Snow and Rich Aurilia. She was J.T.'s neighbor in San Mateo.
-My favorite birthday present were Giants tickets from my supervisor and director. Even more funnier, a new supervisor knew I loved the Giants so got me tickets for my birthday the following year but didn't know my old supervisor got me the same present the year before.
-I have a baseball card signed by J.T. Snow.
-The first time I attended a game at PacBell Park was a comp ticket.
-Growing up in Guam, I was more of a Dodger fan.
-Was at LMC eating dinner and waiting for the 3rd Game of the '89 World Series to start when the infamous '89 Loma Prieta Earthquake hit (had a night class).

American League |
A's win the 2002 American League West,
but lose to the Twins in the playoffs.
Not a mistake. I grew to like the A's as I
watched Interleague games between them and the Giants. For such a
young team, they have a lot of talent. As predicted in 2000, they've become contenders in the American League. The A's barely lost to the Twins in the playoffs. The Yankees (and Steinbrenner's millions) are no longer factors. My favorite
players are Mark Mulder, Tim Hudson, and Barry Zito.
Unfortunately, my all-time favorite Ben Grieve was traded to
the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. And just like the Giants, the A's have a new manager...Ken Macha (former bench coach). Many of analysts have picked the A's to win this year's World Series.
Interesting facts:
-Mark Mulder, Eric Chavez, Mark Ellis, Frank Menechino, and Mike Venafro lived in Lafayette during the 2002 season.
-Got comp tickets while working at Cohn & Wells and saw Utah Jazz players.

| San Francisco 49ers - NFL |
2003 NL WEST CHAMPIONS - SF 49ERS
THEY'RE BACK. The 49ers make it passed the first round of the playoffs in several years by coming back after being behind by 30 points in the half and beating the NY Giants (notwithstanding two of the strangest plays in playoff history). Then, lose against the Bucs...the eventual Superbowl Champions.
But the 49ers refuse to re-sign head coach Mariucci to a new contract...and get Dennis Erickson (former Seattle Seahawks and Oregon State head coach). This year will be another of those we'll-wait-to-see seasons.
I first became a
49er fan at the age of 11 when the 49ers won their first SuperBowl.
Since then, I've been a loyal SF 49er fan. In December 1995, I
watched my first live 49er game at 3Com Park (Candlestick) as the
49ers faced the Bills. Although they're in the midst of re-building I
remain loyal to the 49ers. My favorite players that have worn the
red and gold are Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Merton Hanks, Ronnie Lott,
and Roger Craig.
Interesting facts:
-Cohn & Wells had season tickets so I attended several games at Candlestick/3COM Park. C&W's luxury box suite was two suites down from the owner's box so I've seen Dwight Clark, Bill Walsh, Eddie DeBartolo, and even Danny Glover.
-First game I attended at Candlestick was in December 1995 against the Buffalo Bills.
-I attended the 1998 NFC Championship Game (49ers vs. Packers) at Candlestick. 49ers lost but I won part of the office pool.

| Los
Angeles Lakers - NBA |
2002 NBA CHAMPIONS - LA LAKERS I've also been a
Lakers fan since 1981. I loved the team of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and
Magic Johnson. Even through their bad seasons in the early 90s, I've
remained a loyal Lakers fan. When Magic returned to play with the
Lakers I was sure that the Lakers had a chance to make it to the NBA
championships. With Shaq and Kobe the Lakers will be a force to
reckon with in the NBA for years to come.

Hockey |
RIT TIGERS LOSE TO ELMIRA IN THE 2003 ECAC DIVISION III CHAMPIONS,
ENDS 7-YEAR STREAK OF NCAA TOURNAMENT APPEARANCE
I was first
introduced to hockey during my second year at RIT. That year, I had
watched 4 RIT hockey games and a Rochester Amerks game. I became
intrigued by the speed and skill it takes to play hockey. The
competition between rival colleges also made the games intense. It
was a greater thrill to watch the Tigers this year because RIT made
it to the NCAA Division III Championship at River Falls, WI.
Although the team lost to Middlebury in the Championship Game, I was
extremely proud that our team had advanced so far. Some key players
of the season included: Chris Maybury, Adam French, Randy Chenowski,
Steve Toll, and Jamie Morris.
