Anne's Map

Back when there was only The Sword of Shannara
there was also only one map, which showed the center of the Four Lands.
What lay beyond its borders?

I got out a pencil and a big piece of paper and started to draw....

[Anne's Shannara Map]

As you can see, I made many changes even on the parts of the map shown in the book, since some of the geography didn't make sense to me (for instance, no drainage from the north side of the Dragon's Teeth.) The Eastland and Westland are, of course, completely different from Brooks' versions, although I've been influenced over the years by his maps in making certain changes to mine. Interestingly enough, I originally thought up a name very similar to Arborlon for the capital of the Westland, and promptly dismissed it as sounding "tacky" (you know arbor=tree, it seemed too obvious.) Then in Elfstones, the Elven capital WAS called Arborlon. So I went ahead and adopted it. Also interesting: I had the "cut-throat infested" Wildedge in the southwest area of my map before Elfstones and "the Wilderun". This map has gone through many versions over the years, and it's possible (although probably unlikely at this point) that bits of it may change again.
