If you're looking for current up-to-date information on the Shannara series or Terry Brooks, you've come to the wrong place. Look here.
But if you've ever read a book, entered an imaginary world, and fallen in love with it...if you've ever dreamed up new adventures to happen in that universe, which was constantly growing as a result of your own imaginative efforts...and if you've ever had what you dreamed negated by new information, new books from the original author, I may have something here to share with you.
I read The Sword of Shannara a very long time ago, in 1979. For almost three years--until The Elfstones of Shannara was published in 1982--I dreamed freely, eagerly, and widely. This was in the days before everything automatically had a sequel. When Elfstones came out I was thrilled...and disappointed. The world I had imagined, based on Sword, was not quite the same world Brooks now imagined. I had a choice: I could dump everything I had thought about the Shannara universe down the tubes--a far from appealing idea--or I could keep right on imagining it as I'd begun. And so the Alternate Shannara Universe was born. If you'd like a tour, you may...
By popular demand, I've included a section for those who are interested in Terry Brooks, but not necessarily interested in the Alternate Shannara Universe.
The Terry Brooks Mailing List -- Nothing official. Just a small chummy e-mail discussion list for talking about Brooks/Shannara/whatever. E-mail me to join.
Shannara Links -- My selected links to other Shannara sites on the web.
Shannara Parodies -- Funny stuff written by various people, many of them from the TB Mailing List.
WWW.SHANNARA.COM -- The publisher's site, where you can join the publisher's Brooks announcement list. A special on-line bonus for the members of the publisher's list is a Shannara short story, to be distributed in October 2000.
WWW.TERRYBROOKS.NET -- The official fan site sponsored by Terry Brooks himself. The fan who runs this webpage appears to have been an apt choice. (I'm not being sarcastic, but that's not praise either.) If you want to know all the latest Brooks news "straight from the horse's mouth," go there.
