Graduation Requirements
In order to graduate from high school in the District, a student must successfully complete a ceratin number of units and pass examination of basic skills. The State of Texas requires all students to complete a certain series of courses.
A student in the minimum high school programs is required to complete the following courses: English(4 units), mathematics(3 units), science(2 units), social studies(2 1/2 units), economics(1/2 units), physical education(1 1/2 units), health education(1/2 unit), one additional credit in World History/World Geography/ or Science, technology applications(1 unit), Speech(1/2 unit), and electives(5 1/2 units), for a total of 22 units.
A student in the recommended high shcool program is required to complete the following courses:English(4 units), mathematics(3 units), science(3 units), social studies(3 1/2 units), economics(1/2 units), physical education(1 1/2 units), health education(1/2 units), language(2 units same language), technology applications(1 unit), and fine arts(1 unit), Speech(1/2 unit), and completion of 3 1/2 units in Option I,II or III. Students in this program must complete a total of 24 units.
A student in the distinguished achievment program is to complete the following courses: English(4 units), mathematics(3 units), science(3 units), social studies(3 1/2 units), economics(1/2 unit), physical education(1 1/2 units), helath education(1/2 units), language other language(3 units same language, technology applications(1 unit), and fine arts(1 unit), Speech(1/2 unit), and completion of 2 1/2 units in Option I,II or III. Studentd in this program must complete a total of 24 units and must also meet a total of four advanced measures.
Upon the recommendation of the ARD committee after involvement of the parent, a student in special education may be permitted to graduate under the provisions of his or her IEP.
