The basics

Chocobos are creatures that look like giant chickens crossed between lamas and camels. Chocobo racing/breading isnt cheap you need a lot of money. At Chocobo Billys farm you need to buy the stables that he has at 10,000 gil each! And then theres money for nuts and greens as well. And you need a few days to do this side quest 100% complete.

Ok first thing buy some stables 3 should suffice. And make sure you have the Chocobo lure material equipped or your just wasting your time. You can get Chocobos all over the world map on those Chocobo tracks that are scattered around. But each track has different types of Chocobos observe

If you feed your Chocobo a green and nothing happens then its stats are maxed out for that particular green, also the more expensive the green the longer the Chocobo will stick around in the battle for, giving you more chance to capture them. Chocobos also eat nuts but this is only for breading them so only ever get Carob nuts and Zeio nuts, both are used to bread specialist Chocobos but neither can be purchased.

Once you have either maxed out your Chocobos stats or are happy with it you should race them before trying to bread them, if you race your Chocobo it gets a higher rank the best rank is S and you should always aim for this rank as your Chocobos will almost always bread successfully then when attempting for the specialist Chocobos.

And when you have 2 male and female S class Chocobos its time to let cupid fire his arrow Awwww.

The specialist Chocobos

Ok as you may have noticed there are parts of the map that arent accessible by conventional means so you need something that can travel the deepest ocean and climb the highest mountain.

Theres a guy named Chocobo sage who lives deep within the northern continent but you can only get to his home by the airship. And he has a very bad memory so you can spend ages trying to figure out his clues to bread the ultimate Chocobo or just read this

Green/Blue: its random so save your game before you attempt the second go. You need a Great and a Good Chocobo at S class level and then bread them using a Carob nut; you can find these nuts near bone village steal them from Valkorados in the woods.

Black Chocobo: you have to bread a Green and a blue one together so once you have them make sure they are different sexes. Make sure they are both S class and use a Carob nut.

Gold Chocobo: This is the hardest one to get. Bread your black Chocobo with a wonderful Chocobo both S class racers and using a Zeio nut, these nuts can be won/stolen from the goblins on goblin island (original huh?) its a small island northeast of the ranch.

Save before and you have bread Chocobos to insure you get the right kind. Well thats it now go and enjoy the wonders of the Chocobo side quest
