Vincent is the other of the two
secret characters in Final Fantasy 7, and is the quiet, deep character of the
game. He reminds me of Magus personally, (from Chrono Trigger), though not
as much a developed sense of humor. His past is rooted up in Shinra, and
he has a strange connection with Cloud... though neither of them know it.
They are both parts of the Jenova experiment, although in different ways.
You find him in, of all places, a coffin in Shinra mansion. Spoooky... but
truly, he has a truly good heart, and knows much about Jenova, Sephiroth, Hojo,
and how they all tie together. He has a lot of inner turmoil because of
what he let happen to Lucrecia, and how that led to Sephiroth's creation, and he
tags along with the team to settle the score with Hojo.
In battle, Vincent is a good magic user and a decent physical fighter. It's probably better to keep him in your back ranks, load him down with Materia, and use him as a magic user. His Limit Breaks are some of the coolest in the game, transforming him into various scary looking beasts, which could give even Sephiroth nightmares.

Level 1
Galian Beast: He turns into a purple guy with a tail, and can do Beast
Flare and Berserk Dance attacks. This monster is Fire
elemental.
Level 2
Death Gigas: Think Frankenstein. Can cast Gigadunk and
Livewire, which are both lightning elemental.
Level 3
Hellmasker:
Vincent goes horror movie and grabs the nearest chainsaw. He can use Splattercombo
and Nightmare, which are status effect based.

Chaos: Vincent turns into the main bad guy from final fantasy 1, which
just happens to be REALLY strong. He can use the Chaos Saber and Stan
Slam attacks.
