Short Bio
Red XIII the last of his race, and holds a mysterious connection to the planet.  His grandfather, Bugenhagen, is the leader in planetary research, and conducts his studies in Cosmo Canyon, Red's home.  His true name is Nanaki, not Red XIII.  He's 17 in uh... cat thingy years, but his intellect is higher than most humans.  He is used as a science experiment of Hojo's, until you free him, which will cause him to join you.

In battle, Red is one of the strongest.  He's an excellent front-line fighter, and a very good materia user.  His only weakness comes in that his long-range weapons are few, and not very powerful.  Keep this guy in your front ranks unless you're going to be using him a a magic user, and loading him down with materia.  Using a good balance of materia and physical strength, Red XIII can be one of the 3 strongest characters in the game.

Limit Breaks
Level 1
Sled Fang:  Red throws himself straight through the enemy, causing a decent amount of damage.  It's also a long range attack, which is an extra plus.
Lunatic High:  Casts Haste on the entire party.  This limit break is VERY useful, especially in the beginning of the game, where your "All" materias are few.  Comes in handy during boss fights.

Level 2
Blood Fang:  Charges through the enemy, similar to the Sled Fang attack, except it causes more damage.  Also absorbs some of the opponents HP and MP.
Stardust Ray:  Hits enemies with a lot of shooting stars.  The only thing that Blood Fang has over this attack is the MP boost, so if you don't need the MP, use this one, as it causes a lot more damage.

Level 3
Howling Moon:  Red casts haste and berserk on himself.  While this is good if you need to quickly eliminate an enemy, it can really hinder your party, as you lose control of him for the rest of the fight, which means he can't help out with items or materia.
Earth Rave: Hits enemies with 5 elemental attacks.  Probably the better of the two Level 3 breaks, as you don't lose control of Red for the rest of the battle.

Level 4
Cosmo Memory: Brings down a giant ball of fire on the enemies for giant non-elemental damage.  This attack isn't actually that useful, compared to others level 4 limit breaks, as it only hits once.
