April, May & June

Spring time is the best time for wildflowers in the Algarve. After a long dry and hot summer, the winter rains and the relatively warm temperatures bring about the burst of plant growth. By April the flowering season is at its height. However any resident in this part of the world is aware that some wildflowers bloom even in the hottest driest months.

Click on each season to see sketches and descriptions of flowers growing at that time of year in the Barrocal of the Algarve. These are colour coded for easy identification.

Click here for a description of the Algarve and the region known as the Barrocal.

Descriptions of Major Families of flowering plants and shrubs and trees are also included .

This symbol indicate a photograph of the flower is available.
