WILD FLOWERS OF THE ALGARVE

![]() Dianthus serrulata |
Summer is beach season. It is too hot for most people to wander around the countryside. Temperatures rise and the humidity falls. The countryside looks browner, drier and more desperate. Very occasionally rain falls and temperatures drop.
But in the countryside if one looks carefully everything is not dead. Plants adapted to the harsh dry conditions survive and even bloom.
The many wild flowers growing from the end of June to mid September are illustrated and described in the following pages. Flowers have been colour coded for easy identification. PURPLE, VIOLET AND LILAC FLOWERS © (Text and Artwork) Irene Shepard 2005 |
