Our 1998 racing season began on May 9th and finished on October 17, 1998. We mudbogged once a month. Our 1999 mudbog season will begin again in May, 1999. Our race day consists of 11 or so drivers doing mud runs in the assigned order for ten runs. To say the least, by the end of the day you are pretty filthy, but that is what mudbogging is all about!
Above picture is of Jim Miller driving "OL' POSSUM." At the May 9, 1998 mudbog, the pit was the PITS!!! With all the rain we've had lately we thought the pit would have been soupy, but once we got started, it was STICKY, STICKY, STICKY!! If you didn't have the right tires, you were out of luck!! Mud run times were MUCH slower than usual, if you even made it through for a full run. Luckily, there weren't any broken parts today!! Bill Burwell (driving "MUD LITE") won for the day. Check out the stats at the link below, and then the point standings to see how everyone ranked. At the June 13, 1998 mudbog, the pit was a fast pit. We still had quite a bit of rain, but it didn't hurt this time. Times were quick!! Jim Miller (driving "OL' POSSUM") won for the day. For the first time in our mudbog history, we had a three-way tie! Jim, Bill Burwell, and Chuck Heineman (driving "PIT BULL") all finished for the day with 184 points. The tie was broken by who had the fastest time for the day (between those three). Jim's fastest time for the day was 2.95 seconds. Congrats Jim! Today we did have some mower fatalities. Trish and Larry Potenza both blew with transaxles. Trish (driving "POWER SLAVE") broke in the 7th race and Larry (driving "ONE BAD MUDDER") in the 8th. On July 11th, 1998 mudbog, the pit was pretty fast, but there was a huge hole of deep mud at the finish line. You could get to the finish line, but it was tough for most to get out of the pit. Mike Spaulding filled in for Bill Burwell on the "MUD SHARK" this week, and Mike won for the day on Bill's mower. That's what I call picking a designated driver!! I wonder if he's for hire....... At the August 8th, 1998 mudbog, the pit was a pretty good pit. We ran it the other direction because of the big hole from the previous month's pit. Not too many broken parts this week but there was a very interesting exit from the pit made by Tommy White on his newest mower (unnamed) which is a Dynastar. Apparently Tommy hadn't noticed as he was exiting the pit that his whole front end fell off and he kept gassing it. His front tires ended up by his back tires under his mower. Larry Potenza driving "ONE BAD MUDDER" won for the day (beating Bill Burwell by 1 POINT!!). Way to go Larry! At the September 12th, 1998 mudbog, the pit started out really fast (MORE WATER!) and drivers' times were really close. In fact, Bill Burwell, Larry Potenza, and Rodney Day finished the day separated by only 1 point!! Bill won for the day -- beating out Larry and Rodney who tied for 2nd. Trish Potenza blew out ANOTHER transaxle and the housing about half-way thru the race day. She had a little bit too much bite!! Jim Miller had a substitute driver due to his injuries from the 1998 STA-BIL Nationals, so Mike Spaulding filled in for him. At the October 17th, 1998 mudbog, the pit started out fast and for some got even faster. Jim Miller was still recovering from his injuries from the Nationals, so he had Kevin Anderson fill in. And boy did Kevin fill in!!! He was kicking butt all day long (running most of his runs with a full wheelie)!! Most of us razzed Jim that Kevin drove OL' POSSUM better than he ever did. Bill Burwell finished the day by becoming the 1998 SEASON CHAMPION! Way to go Bill. He was running strong all season. He would have won for the day also (by two points) had he not went out-of-bounds on his last run! Kevin won for the day. Jim Miller finished the season in Second Place, with Larry Potenza nipping at his heels on ONE BAD MUDDER. Trish Potenza felt victorious because she finished the day without breaking any more transaxles (and I'm sure husband Larry was even happier about that than she was!!) Well, until next season.....

Pictured is Chuck Heineman driving the "HOMER II." As you can tell by the picture, Chuck was hanging on by a thread!! NOTE: The times below for Bill Burwell were actually achieved by Mike Spaulding -- filling in for Bill during his absence on 7/11/98. The points are earned by the mower -- not the driver.

The times listed below for Jim Miller were actually done by substitute driver, Mike Spaulding, since Jim was injured the previous weekend at the 1998 STA-BIL Nationals.

Pictured is Kevin Anderson doing one killer wheelie on Ol' Possum. Kevin was the substitute driver for Jim Miller so the times listed below for Jim Miller were achieved by Kevin. We even razzed Jim that Kevin drove that lawnmower better than he did (not to mention that Kevin could keep it in the pit!!)
