Teachers Rally
Tens of thousands march in the Iranian streets after Parliament gathering,
according to SMCCDI Information Committee
January 22, 2002
Tens of thousands of Iranians defied the Islamic republic's official
warnings by coming to the support of the Iranian Teachers in order
to participate in a banned rally.
Tehran
witnessed, this morning, an unprecedented rally, in size, against
the Clerical leadership while the Security forces, shocked by the
Popular presence, stayed afar in order to avoid an open rebellion.
Slogans, such as, "Marg bar Estebdad" (Down with Dictatorship)
and other hostile slogans to the regime was shouted by the demonstrators
who marched from the Parliament toward the Tehran University where
they shouted "Daneshjoo, Moalem, Peyvandetan Mobarak"
(Students, Teachers, blessed is your unity).
Sporadic
clashes took place in the Vali-Asr area between young demonstrators
and the Security forces who tried desperatly to stop the march.
The protesters read a communique condemning the regime and its
incompetence while calling the residents of the Capital to gather
on saturday in fron of the Presidency for another rally.
