"Reformists" Since early 1980 the self proclaimed middle east experts such as Shirin Hunter (see article in Foreign Affairs of Council on Foreign Relations) has lead the naïve American politicians to believe that there is such a thing known as "moderate mullahs" in Iran. It was in pursuit of such clergies that Reagan dropped it's "no negotiate with terrorists" rhetoric in favor of gifting a signed bible to Hashemi-Rafsanjani. Tens of western and Iranian nationals later, have lost their life to terrorist Mullahs and still the west is desperate to pursue "reform" in the never changing Islamic Shiite dogma.
