Dear Mrs. Shah and class,
We are a third grade class at Woodville Intermediate School in Woodville, Texas.
Woodville is a small town of about 3,500 people, and it is located in the eastern part of Texas where there are lots of tall pine trees.
The logging industry is big in our parts. Many students have parents who work in the logging industry. Some of them cut down the trees, some of them drive big trucks that carry the trees, and some of them work at the mills where they make trees into paper and other commodities.
There is a state prison about one mile outside of town. Some of our parents work there, too. Some of them are prison guards, and a few are nurses who tend to the prisoners. The prison employs many people in our community, but it will employ many more when they finish adding the new unit on that's currently under construction.
Since our town is relatively small, we do not have many businesses.
Some of our parents and relatives work at Wal-Mart. It is a department store. You can get almost anything you want at Wal-Mart. We also have a few fast food chains: McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Sonic, Dairy Queen, Subway, etc. Felicia is a student in our class. Her mom works at McDonald's. She gets to eat lots of Happy Meals. Do you know what a Happy Meal is?
In the middle of our town there is a courthouse. Some of our parents work there, too. The courthouse is old. It has been here since Woodville was established.
And of course, the schools in our town employ many people, including our teacher. We have four public schools here. One is an elementary; it houses children in grades K-2. Our intermediate school houses grades 3-5 (that's where we are). The middle school houses grades 6-8, and the high school goes from grade 9 to grade 12.
We like our town, and we like our school. Some of us have never been anywhere else but east Texas. It would take us 2 hours to drive to Houston, the nearest city from here. Some of us have never even been there.
We would love to hear about your community. Please write back to tell us a little bit about where you live.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Williams' Class

Hey,this is Meagan, Allison, and Dan.
Our little town of Manton is small!!! We have about 7 or 8000 people in our town. We have Labor Day parades and a fair. We have 4 baseball fields, 1 track, 1 football field, 1 park, 1 little lake, 3 tennis courts, 4 restaurants, 3 little stores, 1 campground, 2 gas-stations, 1 school for grades K-12, 6-8 churches,1 playground, and a lot of houses and farms.
It is really cold here right now. We have about 2-3 feet of snow here and it keeps coming!! The temperature is about 0-20 degrees during the day and it gets really cold during the night.

Hello I'm Justin, and I'm typing this letter with my friends Britney and Cory.
In Manton, there is four foot snow drifts, and a sub-zero wind chill.
We live in a state shaped like a mitten, do you know what a mitten is? If you turned over your right hand, palm up, we would be right below your ring finger.
We are a very small town, but we are very good at basketball.
We only have about three thousand people.
We are a farming town. We don't even have a stoplight. Most kids have to find something to do at home for fun. We go to neighboring cities to shop and go to movies, and go to restaurants.
We have very good hunting, so many people come here to hunt. They hunt such things as whitetail deer, water fowl, and small game. We also fish for steelhead, trout, bass, and pike.
We'd like to hear from you soon.

Hello class,
The city I live in is Altoona in central Pennsylvania. The population is 131,820 . It is rated in the 1/3 of the cities of it's size in quality of life, weather, and economy .
We have a National Historic Landmark called the Horseshoe Curve . It is an engineering marvel that allowed trains to make the steep climb through the mountains . The Pennsylvania Railroad chose Altoona as the link between east and west, and our town developed with a rich railroad history .
Our area is full of forets with oak, maple, sassafras, hickory, and evergreen trees.
Deer, bear, rabbit, squirrel, and turkey are found in our forests.
Our average high temperature in the summer is 82 degrees F and low of 20 degrees F. Our average anual snowfall is 48 inches .
We will be going on Christmas vacation from 12/23 to 1/2/99 . Christmas is a holiday for most religions except Jewish (which celebrate in a different way ) where families get together and open presents . We celebrate this holiday because this is the day when Jesus(our God's son ) was born !
Until next time,
Micah

Hi, This is Rachel George from Mrs. Buck's 7th grade class at Keith Junior High School.
Most people in seventh grade hang out at our mall, The Logan Valley Mall. It is a fairly large mall and has a lot of shops that teenagers can buy cloths from.
There is also a movie theater at our mall. There is another theater right across the highway. A lot of people go to the movies very often. I myself am at the mall every weekend.
There are also several bowling alleys that people hang out at.
Some people to go a thing called Rock'n'Bowl. That is you go to the bowling alley and stay until very late. They have a Disk Jockey that plays music all night.
Well, That is all for this letter but I will hopefully hear from you soon. Bye! Bonjour! Adios!
Your Friend,
Rachel George

Dear Students,
We have four seasons in North Carolina. Right now, we have had no rain and it is very hot here in Hickory. At this time we're still in summer and we're in school. Unlike you, we don't have any floods. At least since we have lived here.
During the summer it usually stays around the 90's and 80's. Sometimes in the winter we have snow. In the spring it is pretty rainy, but we never have any monsoons. In the fall the leaves change colors and they fall off of the trees. That is why we call it fall. We have a warm climate. We have hot summers and mild winters.
In North Carolina we have a beach and the mountains. We have a varied climate. In the spring we play baseball. In the fall we play football.

Dear Friends,
Thank you for the nice e-mail. We enjoyed learning about Mehndi. It was very interesting to learn about the painting of pictures on hands and legs.
Girls in the USA do not use Mehndi. A girl in the USA usually gets an engagement ring when the man asks her to marry him. The ring is made out of gold and has one or more diamonds in it.
When she gets married she gets another ring from her new husband. It is usually just made out of gold. The two rings are worn together on the left ring finger.
The girl gives her new husband a ring and he wears it on his left ring finger.
Hope to hear from you again.

Dear Friends,
Hi! I'm Ashley. The weddings there sound interesting, so I'ld like to describe the weddings here.
The night before the wedding some people have what we call bachelor parties for male and females. What that is is a party where you just go crazy, and do just about anything.
There is also a tradition where the bride and groom can't see each other the day before the wedding, and if you do you'll get bad luck.
The dress's the brides wear usually have a long train and it's usually white with sequens or other designs.
Afeter the ceremony, the bride and groom leave and the guests throw rice on them.
After the wedding there is something called the reception. The reception is a time for dancing and the throwing of the bouqet. What happens then is all the single women get in a huddle and when the bride throws the bouqet whoever catches it will be the next one married, legend has it.
As the bride and groom leave they may get a surprise they're car may be decorated with streamers and spray paint. Also as they leave they may have rice or other things thrown on them.
Then they leave to go there honeymoon. What that is is when the bride and groom go somewhere far away by themselves.
This is just a brief description of our wedding traditions.
