Abraham Lincoln

Date: 18 Mar 98 10:09:05 +0000

Dear Friends,

How are you? I'm fine. Some how I know you don't know that much about some of our United State's presidents, so I'm going to talk about the sixteenth president and his name is Abraham Lincoln.

Abraham Lincoln, who was born on February 12, 1809 in a log cabin near Hodgenvile, Kentucky.

Abe was elected president of the United States in November 6, 1860 he was about fifty-one years old.

Abraham Lincoln led the United States in the Civil Wars to end the slavery. He was pressured by Abolitionists who also demanded an end to slavery. Abraham issued the Emancipation Proclamation on the first of January in 1863, to weaken the enemy. It applied only to the ares still under Confederate control. The Proclamation didn't free the blacks yet, but it was a symbol and commitment that changed the nature of the war.

Freeing the blacks was approved by Congress at Lincoln and it was also approved by a sufficient number of states until after Abraham Lincoln got shot and died.

Abraham Lincoln tried hard to free the blacks and he did. Since he ended the slavery we honor him with a holiday on his birthday.

Dear Keypals,

How are you? Me okay! Last month was African American month here in the United States! Here is some history about Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth president. He was born on February 12, 1809.

"Abe" was elected president of the U.S. on November 6, 1860 at this time he married Mary Todd and had for children with her. He also led the U.S. in the civil war to end the slavery in the south. He insisted that the purpose of the war was to save the union(north).

Lincoln also wrote the Emancipation Proclamation. Everyone knew that a northern victory would mean the end to slavery... And so it did the north won and the south was freed, but after the war a man named John Wilkies Booth shot Abraham Lincoln and that's the way the 16th president died. For his actions he was honore with a holiday on his birthday..

The reason we celebrate Abraham Lincoln’s birthday is because he helped end slavery in America and helped the black Americans get the same rights as white Americans. He wrote a famous speech called the”Gettysberg Address” which told that “all men were created equal.” He is considered by many people to be the greatest President in the history of America.

On the 8th and 15th of February we celebrate two presidents birthdays. We celebrate Lincoln’s and Washington’s birthdays. Abe Lincoln helped save this country by leading American troops in a war against the southern states.

George Washington is important because he was Americas first President. He was honest and fair with the American people and he is considered an American hero.
