Sub State - Sioux City EastOne more step in the right direction. Two thirds of the way now with one more game to get us to the big dance. Due to bad weather last night we only got in about 15 minutes of practice. It showed early in tonight's game as we traveled back to Sioux City Leeds field to take on Sioux City East. We started out a little slow but picked it up as the game went on. It took 3 minutes longer then Saturday to start the scoring but when it started they kept coming. Just over 6 minutes into the game Pablo Navarette gets the ball on the top, Ben Edwards makes a run to the outside corner and Pablo sends it outside and makes a run to the middle. Ben gets to the ball and plays the perfect cross and Pablo is right there to put away his first of two goals tonight. Eleven minutes later Zach Paulson takes the thrown in, he puts it right to the middle and to the feet of waiting Josh Grovesnor. Josh is positioned right in front of the goal. He is there to put away his first of two goals as well. Moments later Pablo plays the ball to Josh Grovesnor and he knocks in his second goal and we go into the half with a 3-0 lead. It is a very rough game and we warn our kids, don't get caught up in it. Just play our game, pick up the talk, and continue to win the 50/50's. We need to score first and don't look back. We start the second half, right away Korey Lane gets called for a foul for retaliation and gets the yellow. Shortly after that we score our 4th goal and the first goal in the half. The ball is played inside of the box. Dan Black is there to take the first swing, bounces around and Pablo finishes it off for his second goal. At this point we start making steady subs to get everyone on the field and to keep fresh legs out there so we don't give up something cheap. Defensively Seth Jackson, Zach Paulson, & Dan Gulden were rocks again tonight. We shut down anything they threw at us. Our last goal came with 24 seconds left in the game. James Duysen takes the ball all the way to the corner then starts to walk the line and heads toward the goal. From about 18 yards out he sends the ball across the goal. It looks like a cross but it has just enough hook to it to loop out and then hook back into the far upper corner of the goal. Great ball, great cross, great shot, great goal, take your pick, you name it. Josh Probst has not taken a look back since stepping up his play at midfield and Dan Fisher both played a great game again tonight. Some one else who needs to be recognized tonight is Ben Edwards, he is playing his heart out and is giving all he's got. We will take on Sioux City North on Thursday back in Sioux City at Leeds Field at 6:30pm. Join us as we have advanced to the Sub State Championship match. Join us if you can. The crowd support has been super, we appreciate everyone making the trip and traveling with us. |
