2004 Titans

Districts - Sioux City WestIf you are sitting down to read this you best have your beverage with you and plan on doing some reading. We haven't played like this all year, and it is going to be fun to tell you about it. One game at a time. That is what it is all about right now at this point in the season. Win, come on back and we can do it again, lose and your done. The team played today like we said they could all year. We traveled to Sioux City today and played Sioux City West. Believe me when I say, they played like there is no tomorrow. I told them that today everything needs to be left on the field, take nothing to the bus. We won every 50/50, control the middle, talked like we have never talked before, and our defense was untouchable. It was nice to see the old defense back together again. Seth Jackson, Zach Paulson, and Dan Gulden. Great job back there today. Later in the game Corey Lane was in on defense and he was right there in the goal when Riley made a great save but the ball rebounded out and West hit it in again. Corey was there to send it away and save the shutout. Riley was solid back there with 9 saves. Their play picked up today right where they left off at practice last night. Less then 3 minutes into the game Pablo Navarette and Luke Thompson hook upon a corner kick. Luke comes around the defender and puts in his first goal of the day. 8 minutes later Pablo knocks down a ball that they are trying to clear. Pablo sets it down with a good first touch and hammers it. The keeper didn't even k now it was coming. It's feeling good now. What is going on, we are finishing. Stick around, keep reading, were not done yet, we have just begun. With 17 minutes left in the first half Josh Grovesnor hooks up with Luke. Luke puts in number two. We sub in Adam Cooney in the middle to start getting people some air. Cooney wastes no time. Less then a minute after the last goal, Cooney sends in a perfect ball, yup you guessed it, Luke is there to get the hat trick. To not be out done, Pablo sets himself up and 4 minutes later finds himself alone one on one again and he puts in his second goal for the day. What is going on here, who are these guys. We go into the half with a 5-0 lead. We tell them see how easy it is when you talk, win 50/50's, and score. Everyone relaxes, and you start to feel good about yourself. We told them this game is not over. We must score the first goal of the second half, continue to win the 50/50's and talk. Don't let them back into the game. That's exactly what they did. Just 3 minutes into the second half Dan Gulden hooks up with Dan Black and Black puts away his first goal of his 4 year career as a Titan. Oh my it feels so good. 18 minutes left in the game and Josh Grovesnor puts away his first goal of the season other then a PK earlier in the season. We are feeling it now. We have been subbing steady now and we got everyone into the game by the end. With 16 minutes left in the game Luke in taken down in the box and we get a chance at a Penalty Kick. Josh Probst steps in and puts away the 8th and final goal of the day. Yes you read right, 8th goal. This team found themselves today and everyone grew up a notch or two. I am looking back across the bus right now as we ride back to CB, and I would say everyone was left on the field. I don't see very many heads, everyone is pretty wore out. When you play like they did if feels good and it makes you play harder and want more. Josh Probst really stepped up today and played his best game of the year. Josh was challanged at practice, he rose up and let his play on the field show what a leader he can be. Our bench was there for us today big time. A part of what happened out there was started by Dan Fisher. He didn't score, he didn't have any assists, but he did all of the dirty work. He set up everything all day, play after play from the outside. If the ball went to the corner Fisher was there. He owned that left defender. Great effort, great play Dan Fisher. When we subbed, you saw no let down. The pressure and the attack continued. We must now carry this feeling into Tuesday and continue with this level of play. We will take on Sioux City East back in Sioux City at Leeds Field at 5pm. Join us as we have advanced to the second round of Sub State. |
