Coach's Comments
2004 Titans

   4/27/04 - Riverside

Oh Yeah, It feels good.  A win is a win, and we will be taking each win and game one game at a time.  We made some changes on the field tonight and asked some people to step up.  We looked like a different team out there.  We played together, we put more give and go's together tonight in one game then I have seen in a long time.  Luke Thompson accepted the challenge presented, he stepped out of the goal and moved to Forward, from the back to the top.  Luke had a great game and made a huge difference in the game.  We scored four goals tonight and Luke was involved in every goal.  He had two goals and two assists.  We had a lot of chances that once again just missed or continued to bounce off the goal post.  Finally with 11 minutes before the half Josh Grovesnor sends in a perfect ball and Luke is there to put it away.  We go into the half up by 1.  We tell the boys that 1 goal won't do it.  We must score again and continue to apply the pressure.  15 minutes into the second half Luke and Dan Fisher put it together on a give and go and Luke sends Dan up the middle.  Dan finishes it with putting the ball into the back of the net.  Dan had a good game tonight and really stepped up.  Luke is not selfish at all, 2 minutes later Luke works with Pablo Navarrete and Pablo picks up his second goal for the season.  10 minutes later Ben Edwards sets up Luke again and Luke puts away his second goal of the night.  It was nice to see some scoring again, and the boys enjoyed it as well.  We gained some self and team confidence tonight, now we need to carry that forward to Thursday night when we go on the road to take on Kuemper.  Riley Landolt played well in the goal tonight and logged his first ever Varsity start and his first Varsity shut out.  Way to go Riley.  One can not close out the comments tonight without noting the overall play of the defense and the control of the midfield.  Seth Jackson, Korey Lane, Dan Gulden, and Adam Cooney played very solid defensively tonight shutting down every attempt.  The other move we made tonight with moving Luke to the top was to drop Josh Grovesnor to the midfield.  Tonight we controlled the middle, the Josh show ran the game, Josh Grovesnor and Josh Probst.  They also were the key to most of the give and go's that we had.  They worked well in the middle and it was fun to watch.  In general I think Josh Probst stepped up to a higher level tonight.  When you play like that it helps everyone, everyone feels better about the way they play and we all relax a little.  In fact by the end of the game we had got everyone in.  Congratulations to everyone on the win.  We will travel to Kuemper on Thursday.  JV will start at 5pm.  Please plan to join us.

JV started the night off with an exciting match.  It was a fun game to watch and good to get the win.  The first goal of the game comes just over 2 minutes in when Jeff Walters takes the hit from about the 12, makes it solid and puts it away.  That was Jeff's first goal of the season.  With 1 second left in the half James Duysen moves up the field, playing defense, the ball is played back and James is there to receive the ball and drills it right back on goal.  The ball rolls right up and over the keeper and goes in at the horn.  We take a 2-0 lead into the half.  About 8 minutes into the second half Jeff Walters, who played very well tonight, picks up his second assist of the season.  Jeff sets up Turner Morgan in front of the left of the goal and Turner hammers it home.  Defensively tonight Cory Jasek, Chris Navarrete, Brad Stageman, Walter Osborn, and James Duysen were solid.  We also had three keepers work together tonight to maintain the shut out.  Zach Duysen started the game in the goal and played the first 15 minutes.  After 15 we put in Stephen Burke and he held onto the shut out up to the half.  The second half we put in Riley Landolt and he picked up the save and sealed the shut out.  Good job all three of you.  The train is back on the track, keep it rolling and focus on one game at a time.
