As Jack Gibson...

Jack met Laura at university when she was breezing through a law degree and he was having more of a struggle with engineering. There were early signs of tension in their relationship even back then. The fact that she found everything so easy niggled at him.

As Laura became more ambitious and independent, Jack felt that nothing he achieved could ever impress her enough. Jack's affair with Trudi began because she flattered him and had the kind of time for him that Laura no longer had. It was never going to work because Trudi had none of the qualities he both admired and resented in Laura. The relationship started to unravel as his business also started to fold. He'd overcommitted himself in the attempt to win some sort of acknowledgment from Laura for a career he no longer enjoyed or had any control over.

Patrick Dickson is a versatile actor having developed his skills in radio, film and television. He grew up in the Channel Islands and has been acting professionally since 1978 both here and in the U.K. In 1979 he came to Australia and landed a major role in the ABC series, The Timeless Land.

He was then cast as Arthur Simpson in the popular Crawfords production, Carson's Law. He also appeared in the ABC's Land Of Hope and, more recently, in G.P., Home And Away, and Children's Hospital.

Patrick has worked with all the major theatrical companies and is an active founding member of both The Bell Shakespeare Company and O'Punsky's Theatre, and has performed as a guest actor for The Druid Theatre in the Republic of Ireland.

His film credits include Lilian's Story, Turtle Beach, and the blockbuster movie, A Bridge Too Far.

Of his character in SeaChange, Patrick asks: "Will the women of Australia ever forgive Jack for sleeping with Laura's sister!?"

Patrick defends Jack to the hilt. "There are mitigating circumstances," he says. "Jack has made mistakes. Because of Laura's strength he has come unstuck. Now he is back in Pearl Bay, will he have his sea change? Will he develop as a whole and be a more attractive person for Laura?"
