Crime
Vote Joe Mooney
North Inner City Ward - Dublin City Council

Crime and the fear of crime are a major concern. We need a police service that targets the problems prioritised by the community. The gardai must be accountable and directly answerable to those who live in an area. Structures should be put in place to ensure this happens. Residents have a right to have their phone calls responded to in a reasonable time. Incidents must be followed up effectively.

Those engaged in anti social activity must learn they cannot escape punishment. The most serious offenders, such as drug dealers and joy riders deserve major custodial sentences. The judiciary must enforce mandatory sentences.

Parents whose irresponsibility contributes to their children's bad behaviour must be made accountable. The use of community service, which does contribute something positive, should be used where appropriate.

Education opportunities, employment opportunities and good recreation facilities all contribute to helping young people keep away from crime and drugs.

Paedophiles and other sex offenders must be registered and should not be rehoused in our communities.
