The "Saxonia" was built by Caird & Co, Greenock in 1857 and was the first of three ships of this name owned by the Hamburg America Line. She was rigged for sail. Friedrich, Ernestine, and their 3 children, Wilhelm, Friedrich & Augusta, sailed from Bremen, Germany, aboard the Ship "Dorette",and arrived in New York, USA, on May 15, 1865. The entire family is included in the 1870 Federal Census in Lake, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin.

Ernestine was born about 1821 in Brandenburg, Prussia, Germany. She died in Scott, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin. She married Friedrich Vollmer.

It is assumed that Friedrich Vollmer died between 1900 and 1910. Friedrich and Ernestine Vollmer are included in the 1900 Federal Census in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. The 1910 Federal Census lists Ernestine Vollmer as living with her daughter Augusta and son-in-law Gustav Leifer in Scott Township, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin.

It is further assumed that Ernestine Vollmer died between 1910 and 1920. She is not included on the 1920 Federal Census in her daughter's home.
