JCF NATIONAL JUNIOR CHAMPS BEGINS FEBRUARY 23, 2002

The 2002 National Junior Chess Champs gets underway this Saturday February 23 at the Campion College Auditorium.

New to the tournament will be the fact that it will be an Invitational Open tournament with Invitations being extended to over 50 players.

The playing dates for the Championships are February 23, February 24, March 2 and March 3, beginning each day at 10:00 a.m. The Championship will be played at the Campion College Auditorium.

The Tournament format is 7 Round Swiss, 2 Rounds each day at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Round 7, Sunday March 3 at 10:00 a.m.

Registration $300.00 + membership on February 23, confirmation required by Feb 16. JCF Membership is $500.00 for six months, $1000.00 for 1 year.

Time Control: 30 in 1 hour, ½ hour to complete Tournament Director: National Master Russel Porter

Prize Giving Ceremony at 2:00 p.m. Sunday March 3, 2002

In the event of a tie, a Blitz play-off will be used to decide the champion

PRIZES

Prizes:
1st $2000.00 + gold medal + Shane Matthews Trophy + Book (Plus right to represent Jamaica at the World Junior Championships in 2002).
2nd $1500.00 + book + silver medal
3rd $1000.00 + book + bronze medal
4th one-year membership to the Jamaica Chess Federation
More prizes will be announced based on entries.
