NATIONAL WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP 2006

WNM DEBORAH RICHARDS TAKES 2006 LASCO SPONSORED WOMEN'S NATIONAL CHAMPS FOR5TH YEAR IN A ROW.

Woman National Master, Deborah Richards won the Lasco Sponsored, 2005 Women's national champs last saturday to take home the title for an unprecedented 4th consecutive year.

FIVE STRAIGHT TITLES!


WFM Deborah Richards, Jamaica’s highest-ever rated female chess player, further crowned herself in glory by winning the 2006 LASCO/RBTT Jamaica Bank-sponsored National Women’s Chess Championship held on November 18 and 19 at RBTT Bank, Dominica Drive, New Kingston.

Richards easily outclassed the nine-player field, scoring a perfect six wins from her six games to record her fifth straight hold on the coveted title. Second place went to Melisha Smith who scored 4.5/6 and third to Shanice Myrie who scored 4/6.

The next event on the Jamaica Chess Federation chess calendar is the 2006 Candidates Blitz Chess Championships scheduled to be held on Sunday, November 26, 2006 at RBTT Jamaica Bank, Dominica Drive, New Kingston. Registration will commence at the venue at 9:00 am. All chess players are invited to participate in what is shaping up to be a really exciting event. The winner of this tournament will earn the right to challenge FM Warren Elliott, the defending Jamaica blitz chess champion, on Saturday, December 2, 2006 in a 24-game match for the title.
