REPORT 5

National master Jomo Pitterson advanced to the 2007 MKO ¼ Finals by defeating Mark Henry 2½-½. NM Shane Matthews also advanced by blanking JCF President, Ian Wilkinson 3-0. Also joining the round of 8 is NM Equitable Brown who scored a 2½-½ victory over Stuart James, and candidate master Alain Morais with a 3-0 shutout of Gary Hew. Bertram Scott was gifted a place in the round of 8 following the sudden withdrawal of national master Malaku Lorne. Lorne held a commanding 2-0 lead over Scott.

The final 3 places in the round of 8 will be decided after conclusion of the 3 unfinished matches. NM Robert Wheeler and Onaje Lamont are tied ½-½, candidate master Daren Wisdom and Zachary Ramsay are leveled 1-1, and national Junior champion, Brandon Wilson, leads NM Mark Holness 2-1. The competition continues on Saturday, February 17 at the RBTT Bank in New Kingston.

 

REPORT 4

The 2007 Masters KO round of 16 matchups saw Nationl masters Shane Matthews,Malaku Lorne, and candidate master Alain Morais leading their opponents, Ian Wilkinson, Bertram Scott, and Gary Hew, respectively, 2-0.

In other matches NM Jomo Pitterson leads Mark Henry by 1-0 with Sunday's game being postponed, while NM Equitable Brown leads ver Stuart James by a similiar 1-0 margin. NM Robert Wheeler was held to a draw by Glenmuir's Onaje Lamont, candidate master Daren Wisdom leads Zachary Ramsay 1-0, and NM Mark Holness and national Junior champion, Brandon Wilson are tied 1-1 after drawing both games.

The competition will resume this Saturday, February 10 with game 3 at the RBTT Bank in New Kingston.

he 2007 Jamaica Masters KO first round came to an exciting end at the UWI Preston Hall cafe on Sunday, January 28 with two upsets by some talented youngsters

Zachary Ramsay (1837) 2 Adrian Palmer (2057) 0 After shocking Palmer in game 1, youth sensation Zachary Ramsay completed the 2-0 rout by also winning game 2. Ramsay's next opponent is candidate master Daren Wisdom in the round of 16.

NM John Powell (2047) 0 Onanje Lamont (1851) 2 Tagged as one of the brightest young chess talent in Jamaica, Lamont seems to have confirmed the predictions with an emphatic 2-0 shutout of veteran NM John Powell. Lamont faces another veteran NM Robert Wheeler in the round of 16.

The 2007 Jamaica Masters K.O. kicked off with the Nine matches being played in the first round at UWI, Preston Hall on Sunday, January 21.

Two major upsets occured in rnd 1 when Adrian Palmer was upset by Junior, Zachary Ramsay while NM , John Powell lost to Onaje Lamont from Glenmuir High..

NM Mark Holness defeated another player from Glenmuir High, Walter Williams,while Alain Morais drew with Phillip Pryce

Stuart James also scored a mild upset over the higher rated Valence Jordan when Jordan played a passive Caro Kann and failed to conect his rooks in th eopening.

In other games Sidley Matthews Jr. drew a tought game with Mark Henry while Bertram Scott defeated Maurice Robinson

Hakim Buchanan vs Ian Wilkinson is postponed while Humphrey Gayle defaulted against Gary Hew.
