REPORT 3 2005 National Junior Age
group Champs WILSON
TAKES UNDER 18 CHESS CROWN
Ardenne High sixth former, Brandon Wilson, is the new National Under 18 Chess Champion. Wilson secured the title over the weekend by scoring 4½ points from 5 games, as the curtains came down on the National Age Group Chess Championships at the RBTT Bank Headquarters in New Kingston.
In the top-of-the-table final round clash on Sunday, Wilson put away Camperdown’s Damion Davy with masterful ease to cap off a good junior season, which saw him finishing as runner-up in the National Junior Championships and captaining Ardenne to second place in the National Schools Chess Championship.
Second in the Under 18 Championship went to reigning National Junior Champion, Christopher Buchanan of Campion College, who finished ahead of Glenmuir’s Walter Williams on tiebreak, as both players ended on 4 points.
Williams took the National Under 16 title ahead of Davy and Phillip Pryce, who both ended on 3½ points. Davy was awarded second place on tiebreak.

TAKES NATIONAL UNDER 14 AND 12 CHESS TITLES MELLACE HOLDS ON TO UNDER
10 TITLE
Stuart James of Wolmer’s Boys, is the new National Under 14 and Under 12 Chess Champion. James finished atop the National Championship standings over the weekend, with an unbeaten 4½ points from five games.
In the final round on Sunday at the RBTT Bank Headquarters, James took an early draw against Shanice Myrie of Queens to secure the championship titles. Myrie who scored 3½ to tie for third overall, was the top female in the tournament
Second place in the Under 14 category went to Jared Lewis who scored 4 points, while third was shared by Phillip Pryce, Brian Ewbank and Shanice Myrie who all ended on 3½ points.
In the Under 12 category second place was shared by Pryce and Ewbank.
Defending champion for all three age groups (Under 14, 12 and 10), 9 year old Tewana Mellace, found the going rough and could only hold on to his Under 10 title after securing 3 points.
Second in the under 10 category was shared by Donlejon Saraviau and Andrew Folkes. Both players finished on 3 points but were relegated to share second on tiebreak.

The Jamaica Chess Federation will be staging the 2005 National Age Group Chess Championships for:
Under 14, 12 and 10 on July 02 and 03, 2005 Under 18 and 16
on July 09 and 10, 2005
AGE GROUP NATIONAL TITLES UP FOR GRABS INCLUDE:
Under 18 (Players under the age of 18 on January 01, 2005) Under 16 (Players under the age of 16 on January 01, 2005) Under 14 (Players under the age of 14 on January 01, 2005) Under 12 (Players under the age of 12 on January 01, 2005) Under 10 (Players under the age of 10 on January 01, 2005)
The highest placed individual in each age group will be awarded the title of National Champion for that age group and will earn the right to represent Jamaica in that age group until the next National Age Group Championships in 2006.
FORMAT: Swiss 4 Rounds if 16 or fewer participants 5 Rounds if 17-32 participants 6 Rounds if 33-64 participants
TIME CONTROL: 1 hour and 10 minutes per player per game
REGISTRATION: Under 14, 12 and 10 9 am on Saturday July 02, 2005 at the RBTT Bank Headquarters in New Kingston

TIEBREAKS TO BE USED IN ORDER OF PRIORITY:
1. Result of the game between tied players
2. Median Defined for this purpose as the sum of all opponents' adjusted final scores minus the sum of the highest and the lowest such scores. Final scores are adjusted to award no more or less than one half point for every unplayed game.
3. Solkoff Defined for this purpose as the sum of all opponents' adjusted final scores. Final scores are adjusted to award no more or less than one half point for every unplayed game.
4. Opponents Ratings Defined for this purpose as the average of all opponents ratings as listed and used for pairings in the tournament (regardless of whether these ratings are current) provided unrated players are provisionally assigned a rating of 1600 for the purpose of the tie-break.
Prizes: Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals for the top 3 finishers in each category, plus cash prizes
