QBW Newsletter
Which Word Processor is Used to Create and
Edit the Newsletter?
The Newsletter can be created/edited/formatted in a variety of Word
Processors depending on what the editor or co-editor is most familiar with or has
available.
|
Possibilities are |
MS
Word |
|
|
OpenOffice.org Writer |
|
MS Publisher (only as a last resort) |
This is possible because:
a) MS Word and OpenOffice.org Writer are fairly compatible and
can be converted from one to the other.
b) The Newsletter is produced in various sections which mostly take up
an entire page.
c) The Newsletter is converted to a PDF document before uploading to the Club website and
so it is possible to join the various pages of PDF into one document.
My own preference is OpenOffice.org Writer as:
a) It is free and updates and newer versions can be downloaded from the net for free too.
b) It has an inbuilt converter to PDF so no other software is necessary.
I have used MS Publisher and MS Word in the past but
they have several drawbacks.
a)
They are proprietary software and fairly expensive.
b) They come in different versions and newer versions may not be
compatible with older versions.
c) The older versions of Word do not have an inbuilt PDF converter.
An external free software such as PDFCreator
is used to convert Word or Publisher to a PDF document.
