Resolution
Digital Image Resolution
Resolution describes the detail an image holds. Higher resolution means more image detail.
With a digital image the resolution can be given as a set of two numbers, where the first number is the number of pixels
in width and the second is the number of pixels in height, eg 640 by 480.
The more pixels initially used to represent an image, the closer the result can resemble the original.

Below is an illustration of how the same image might appear at different pixel resolutions.
Computer Monitors
With a computer monitor the resolution refers to the number of distinct pixels that the screen can display. Modern monitors can display their screens at various
resolutions eg 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768.
Scanners
With a scanner the resolution is given as dots per inch (DPI). A picture scanned at 600 DPI will contain more dots and thus more detail than a picture scanned at 300 DPI.
