GASTRONOMIC TRANSLATIONS FOR RESTAURANTS AND HOTELS

Since 1991 I have translated thousands of menu cards into several languages for restaurants/hotels all over Spain.

In 1995 I co-founded the company Doest Edicions specializing in gastronomy translations and also in the creation and development of dictionaries and computer software to help restaurant professionals in the translation of their own menus.

All along 14 years, the company Doest Edicions has translated over 50,000 dishes for hundreds of restaurants and hotels in the South of Europe. The languages used have been basically Catalan, Spanish, English, French, Italian and German, and to a lesser degree Portuguese, Dutch or Russian.

In 2009 the company Doest Edicions terminated, and since then up to now I have continued doing translations for some restaurants, such as Via Véneto (Barcelona), Restaurant Gaig (Barcelona) or Can Romeu (Parets del Vallès).

During all this time, I have carried out an intense work of study, documentation and collection of culinary lexicon in several languages resulting in a series of bilingual and multilingual glossaries and dictionaries. Most of this material has been used as in-house documentation resources for the translation work, and at the same it has gone through a continuous task of selection, correction and streamline in order to create and publish several glossaries and dictionaries of gastronomic translation for restaurants and hotels.

Among all this reference material it is worth mentioning a 6-language dictionary with approximately 5000 entries of cooking terms and international cuisine specialities.

We have also marketed bilingual dictionaries and glossaries of gastronomy terms with about 2000 entries. Through the company's website, Doest Edicions has also offered a free of charge 6-language mini-glossary containing 300 entries of cooking terms.

Below are some examples of these materials:

Mini-glossary of 300 gastronomy terms (Spanish, English, French, Italian, German, Catalan)

Spanish-English gastronomy dictionary (4800 entries)

Spanish-Dutch glossary of gastronomy terms

Spanish-Swedish glossary of gastronomy terms
